Disappointing, unwelcoming and soulless
Liked: The bed was comfortable, albeit very little room to get into it. The shower was good.
Disliked: The staff didn’t welcome us on arrival, just pointing us to an iPad that didn’t work, before handing over a pen and paper. There was minimal interaction and no information given, we even had to ask where the lift was to get to our room. The venue was advertised as a music venue and we stayed on Halloween so expected it to be lively. We went to see the Lion King and after the show came back with the intention of having a few drinks and music but the place was dead. The pub opposite was heaving though. Perhaps a little more attention to detail wouldn’t go a miss, getting the basics right like talking to the customers and maybe stocking the bar with a selection (no cider available only fruit koperberg). It was my partners birthday and I paid extra for a “lovely room” with city views. While the bed was comfy and the shower good, the room was far from lovely - rather cold and soulless - and the “city views” were of the pub opposite which could be seen from any floor. Also the amp speaker would not connect to our phones as advertised. The room was also advertised as being sound proof, but we could hear every word from the room next to us and we could hear the cleaners in the morning and the pub opposite. Not at all sound proof. When we checked out in the morning the young lad behind the bar merely pointed to a basket and said leave your room keys in here. I had intended to tell the staff of our disappointment but again there was no interaction. When paying over £200 for a room is it too much to expect a hospitable reception from the host? Very disappointing.

Superb location and super friendly...
Liked: Amazing location - the daily food market outside is a super bonus - highly recommended for a good night out in London and come back to a peaceful room
Disliked: check in - I did it before via a link I was sent, so no waiting, and had to do it again

Very good, fun hotel, well...
Liked: Location excellent although you can hear tube/metro noise in bedroom on first floor. Room very good shower excellent, products, shampoo etc superb. All in white and so careful maintenance required. Bar excellent, live music venue, excellent, staff excellent. Breakfast not that great, OK but limited to boiled eggs, pre boiled?! Needs a review. However overall really good fun hotel.
Disliked: Breakfast.

Great friendly staff, large comfy...
Liked: I love their philosophy of "smart luxury" or whatever term they used. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were quite large and comfortable by typical London standards, the wifi was free and worked well to take a few work calls, and the lounge area was welcoming and cool. Despite being very busy, it was not too loud, albeit this was a mid week stay. I particularly liked the "galley" concept they had on each floor with free coffee and tea rather than take up space in every room with a kettle and coffee machine. Much more sustainable! Oh and the bar makes interesting delicious cocktails -- not your typical stuffy boring hotel bar. Location is fantastic -- 3 minutes walking from Waterloo train / underground station, about 20 minutes walking to cross the Thames into Covent Garden, and the Lower Marsh market outside during the day with interesting street food options was an unexpected bonus. The only minor thing missing for me was a fitness center in the hotel, or better yet an agreement with a nearby gym for guests to use while staying there. I would definitely stay at the Ruby Lucy again!
