Long Breaks

Liked: Evening meals were superb and pleasures. The bedroom with the sea view and waterfront and spaceful and interesting views over the Jurassic coast was fantastic. The staff were friendly and respectful.
Disliked: 1. Poor WIFI: Not acceptable.2. Special assistance: no ramp for folder scooter or wheelchair and area for scooter or wheelchair in the dinner rooms or restrooms. Also bathroom.3. Poor lift for special assistance.4. Paid in full for DBB upgrade. Only two evening meals, not eight, are outing meals. it should be £80 not £160.

Ok

Liked: Location excellent.Service in restaurant excellent Nata stood out as extremely kind and helpful.
Disliked: Reception team were not as friendly or helpful as they could have been. When dealing with the receptionists they were put out if asked a question. I asked politely for new bottle for water as I did not have one in the room I had been moved to and the receptionist did not communicate effectively just marched off upstairs and got the one from my old room, she left me wondering where she had disappeared too and then when she returned she told me it was by my room. I had to search for it as she didn’t explain where she had left it. I annoyed her further by asking where the water station was. This left me feeling annoyed. I believe 100% that the team at the hotel particularly the reception team could do with lessons in communication skills and the effects that poor communication has on the public and how to improve their skills .

A good location, the hotel...

Liked: It was a comfortable room although a little compact! I found the room's vicinity (on 1st Floor at rear of building) to be very noisy. It was overlooking the kitchen where crockery and kitchen utensils could be heard along with conversations of kitchen staff. Also a bottle bin was placed at bottom of stairs to kitchen and was used several times during the day! not very conducive to a quiet restful time. Also with this room being at the end of a corridor alongside 4 other doors (all being in close proximity to each other) again lead to a very noisy atmosphere when other tourists arrived to their accommodation!! I had to use the stairs on many occasions as the lift doors kept opening and closing continuously causing much fustration. They wouldn't stay shut!!
Disliked: Why is it that people who like to take a break on their own and pay good money for the opportunity are always 'shoved' at the rear of hotels just because there happens to be a smaller room. It would be great to be treated as any other tourist and have a larger room in more compatable surroundings.

Lovely Traditional Hotel in a...

Liked: The hotel is beautifully maintained and very comfortable in the prime position in central Sidmouth overlooking the Sea. The staff are all very helpful and the food was generous and well prepared using excellent local ingredients where possible.
Disliked: Please be aware that onsite parking is limited and there is no lift but neither caused a problem for our stay.

Disappointed

Liked: Both the breakfast and location were excellent.
Disliked: We didn’t like the influx of two coach parties of elderly guest. The whole place was taken over by them and it was more akin to a care home as opposed to a three star hotel. The staff ( although very professional) seemed particularly irritated by the 100 or so guests. The food, although good was obviously mass produced to cater for the influx.

Liked: Very efficient and friendly staff and well presented food.
Disliked: I chose the hotel partly because it showed photos of the pool/ spa. I was really shocked to discover that there was a £50 charge to use it, just once! Fortunately the sea was close by - cold but free.
