Unforgettable small hotel in Sydney,...
Liked: Very well conserved mid 19th century building, with many upgrades (power, bathroom) that blend seamlessly into the period fitout. Clearly the owners/operators love the place and their business, are very welcoming and include many personal touches affecting all the small details that make the difference when operating a boutique hotel, like how Debussey was playing in the background as I checked in. Real class

Exceptional
Liked: An absolutely amazing hotel - a breath of European historical charm lovingly maintained. Wonderful and amicable hosts that instantly make one feel at home. Even the cute small dog and Siamese cat are well mannered . The directness and genuine Quebecois kindness may be unusual for Sydney. But it has the uniqueness that eventually is more appreciated than the standard, faceless attitudes in big business hotels. The hotel looks like a picture gallery - and the author of many of them is actually the host - Carmen. While ascending the winding stairs one is visually transported into the artful mind of the painter - the unobtrusive, pensive paintings of Art Nouveau type style with symbols, ornaments and hidden meanings.
Disliked: Nothing.

Wonderful stay
Liked: Loved the family like vibes at Royal Hotel. Carmen, her parents - Tony & Irene and her pets - Rango the puppy & the cat (forgot the name) - all made me feel so welcome. The breakfast with the family was the best part of the day! Room was really clean & comfortable. Had everything available.

Welcoming and friendly stay close...
Liked: The hosts were fantastic and very accommodating, ready to assist with any problems. The homey feel was nice.
Disliked: Breakfast was delicious but after four days of the same thing it was a little much. I am sure most people don't stay that many days so usually wouldn't be a concern.

It felt like home when...
Liked: The lady and her little dog greeted us upon arrival and was very friendly. We met the partner later on and he was just as welcoming. The room was clean and quiet. This is a nice place to stay if you want to feel the home like feeling.

We will definitely be back.
Liked: Our stay was Dec 6-8, 2024. We were in Sydney to watch the World Title, Professional Boxing match at Center 200. The Royal Hotel Sydney has a breathtaking atmosphere. The building has so much character, that we immediately feel in love. The hosts attention to detail is amazing. The were personable and always accommodating. Centrally located, we were able to get in everything we wanted to see in a short time, with quick routes to our required events. I would recommend this spot a million times over. You will not be disappointed.
Disliked: There was nothing we didn't like. It was perfect.

We were on vacation but...
Liked: The location because it is accessible to waterfront and just minutes away from stores and restaurants. Although the busy streets and noises from vehicles can be heard right up to the windows but it was tolerable.
Disliked: Just a thought when I book this hotel for 1 night it says max of 5 guests .The guests were 4 adults and an 8 yr old. When we got there, I met Carmen ( I think the owner/ manager) and when she found out that we're total of 5 guests her face and voice totally shifted and not welcoming. I even apologized to her because maybe I didn't check the details of the room properly. Carmen said she will returned my money and just find another hotel because apparently there are guests that's interested in the room and I was totally shocked by her behavior. We have traveled hours away and knowing the influx of visitors in that area all hotels are sold out. But then she changed her mind and came back to me outside of the hotel to let me know that the other guest already found their hotel. If it was just me and my husband I would gladly find another hotel I don't care if it's far away. But because I have with us my 2 inlaws that are senior citizens and my 8 yrs old son. I guess I just have to adjust to the situation. Carmen said since I have an extra 1 guest with me she will charge me 20 CAD but I insisted that I will pay 50 CAD which she agreed. She also ask for 250 CAD for the damage deposit which is fine with me as it's usually the rule. She wasn't happy that I have one extra guest because according to her it is discomfort to others. She said it should be 4 adults and explained that my son will sleep with us in 1 bed so I think it's not really a big deal. So after that, Carmen briefly told us that she doesn't want any noises or banging sounds upstairs which of course we understood. She knocked our doors twice because apparently she heard some banging noise on the floor which to our surprise from where? We were careful while walking because her wooden floor is so sensitive. She told us that the damage deposit was worth it to charge
