Resurant and bar food fantastic...

Liked: Originally booked a twin room with a bath. We weren't accommodated for the bath option but it was a twin room. We're told they couldn't make up the room with a bath into a twin as "all the staff were gone home". we weren't bothered it was just for 1 night to sleep in, nothing more. However the room we got shared a wall with the downstairs bathroom for the bar restaurant. Not ideal and mid evening all we were hearing was the hand dryer going on and off every 5 mins from bar patrons and we new that would continue till the restaurant closed. So sleep was unlikely. We went to ask for another room and this time it was an option to get bar staff to help split a bed into 2 and we were given a room with bath tub. Strange but we really appreciated the effort made and we had the bags dropped in for us, staff super polite at every stage. The second room we moved was a bit more updated, very nice tiling in bathroom. However the draft coming into through window was crazy. It felt like a backup bedroom there was no number on the door and lock was not a keycard but an actual key..I think someone had pushed open the window to smoke out it as the window just wasn't sealing closed it had a gap between draft lining and the wood of the window. I plugged a towel around the window edges I just would have been too embarrassed to go down again and complain again.Food in restaurant is great, portions are huge so ask for half portion or share some dishes. Excellent value for money. So near town.to walk over the bridge and explore.Had worked in the hotel about 20 years ago in housekeeping and surprised to see some decor still in the room we were in first. Also hadn't been in the hotel in 8 years and nothing really changed in terms of decor in main areas so just feels tired and dated. Has been painted a nice colour but seats etc just faded and tired. But that's personal taste.

Liked: Great location, great food, great room! The windows and public areas could do with good deep clean, otherwise we were delighted with the Riverbank. Highly recommend the bar food.
