Liked: Hotel Riu is the premier location to stay in Madrid being within walking distance of so many attractions. Add to this, the 1st class experience of the team and room quality, and this makes for the perfect place to stay.

Disliked: I stayed at this four-star hotel, but unfortunately, the service was far below expectations. One of the biggest issues was the lack of English proficiency among the staff. In a hotel of this category, it is reasonable to expect that at least key personnel—such as room service and waitstaff—can communicate in English. However, 99% of the staff couldn’t understand or respond properly, except for those at the reception.We ordered a soup through room service, specifically requesting lemon on the side. Not only was the service terrible, but they also ignored our request and didn’t include the lemon. Since no one understood English, there was no way to communicate or address the issue.Additionally, one day our complimentary water was not replenished. We tried multiple times to report it through the hotel’s app and staff, but once again, the language barrier made it impossible to get a proper response. Instead of bringing water, housekeeping showed up for cleaning, completely misunderstanding our request.For a four-star hotel, such basic communication issues and service failures are unacceptable. If you don’t speak the local language, expect major difficulties. I would not recommend this hotel unless they seriously improve their staff training and service quality.
