For this I paid $100?...
Liked: To be candid, there was little to like. The room was definitely clean, the bed was comfortable, and the small towels weren’t paper-thin. The thru-wall HVAC unit actually did what they’re supposed to do, quietly.
Disliked: Good luck finding this property, even with GPS. Follow a maze of backstreets to a cluster of motels. I wasn’t sure if I was at the right one because there is NO signage or brand ID on the exterior of the building. I took a chance and approached the entrance where I finally saw a Red Roof logo mounted on the wall inside. When I opened the door, I was overwhelmed with the eye-watering scent of cheap cologne. The desk-clerk’s friendliness belied the blood-drooling monster tattooed on her forearm. The room was easy to find, but reflected the advanced age of this property. The room was probably refurbished in the past 10 years, and was clean but battered, and flooded with that same cheap cologne odor. The original carpet was replaced with vinyl planks, but mopping had caused the edges to curl. The ugly maroon draperies were partially detached from the rod and morning sunlight revealed a constellation of holes in the foam backing. Note to travelers with mobile phones or other devices: There are NO in-room USB charging ports, so bring your own adapter. The bathroom was disappointing. Most notable was the huge non-slip mat on the tub bottom with a notch for the drain that looked like it had been chewed by rodents. The mat’s edges were stained brownish-red and I’d rather not guess the cause.Checkout was utter chaos. Tattoo woman had been replaced by presumably the owners. The wife had a limited grasp of English and had to be assisted by her hovering husband. I was behind a couple who had some kind of issue that required trips outside for papers. I finally interrupted this confusion to say I just wanted to check out. Hubby took my key cards and wifey fumbled around under the desk. After a couple minutes, I told her I didn’t want a receipt and wished everyone a happy day.My travel is to assist with an elderly parent, not business or pleasure. I must minimize my expenses, so I don’t have high expectations for my lodging. This property failed to rise above that low bar.
