Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing experience despite amazing location

Liked: Stunning location and amazing view.Bed comfortable.Breakfast lovely .
Disliked: The interior of the whole hotel is very dark and dismal .We were on the third floor and had not been previously warned that the lift was not working due to refurbishments in the hotel , we are in our early seventies .The room was very small and in need of drastic refurb, wallpaper peeling , damp on the wall and carpets very damaged and marked. An overall feeling of neglect. No where to eat or drink in the hotel till 8pm due to a function taking place. Reception often unattended and staff when there were uninterested and not very engaging. On overall very disappointing experience despite the amazing location.

It was completely spoilt by...

Liked: Excellent location. Good choice at breakfast. Excellent sea view, although I had to pay extra for this.
Disliked: Non existent sound insulation between bedrooms. I was kept awake most of my first night due to the occupants in the room below watching a loud film on TV until after 2am. The TV went on again, loudly, at 6am. I didn't stay the second night as I was too exhausted and wouldn't have enjoyed what I had planned.

Whist the room was comfortable...

Liked: The room was nice, good location
Disliked: It is in the midst of being altered to a wedding venue, lacking in even the old grandeur of the Ravenscar Hotel as was;the Food was poor and expensive;the route to the room is through faded parts of the old hotel and difficult to navigate; the restaurant staff were pleasant and friendly but didn’t appear to be trained in their work

Gorgeous hotel and great location.

Liked: Loved the location. Best views of any hotel I've stayed at, just breathtaking. Close to the cinder path and Cleveland way.The new refurbishments in the hotel look really fabulous, so far, loved the reception and restaurant/bar area.Food was excellent, had evening meal which was outstanding and breakfast was very good. Staff were very nice, polite and so smartly dressed. Loved the fact that the hotel is dog friendly.
Disliked: The ladies toilets downstairs had an unpleasant smell. Our reading lamp in the bedroom was loose and spun round. Very limited complimentary tea and coffee on offer in the room, one packet of biscuits is a bit stingy.
