Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Disappointing

Liked: The breakfast was ok.
Disliked: I changed rooms as I had a shower head caked in mould. The receptionist on the desk at the time made me wait for a good 5-10 minutes for him to finish a phone conversation without even acknowledging my presence. The main building is hugely outdated and there’s a broken fire door in the main building by the rooms above the bar that clatters every time someone opens it and remains half open unless you physically pull it shut.

Lovely hotel and surroundings, comfortable...

Liked: Large rooms and very comfortable stay. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, with a river flowing nearby that is accessible from the property's grounds. Yet not far from the city. Everything was perfect.
Disliked: They stop serving breakfast at 9 AM although the check-out time is 11 AM. I wish the breakfast window were a bit wider. Also, the postcode takes you to the parking lot of the village hall nearby rather than the hotel itself, which can be really confusing. That's not the hotel's fault though, but something to be aware of.

Don't expect breakfast

Liked: Good location, comfortable bed.
Disliked: Filthy shower curtain covered in mould. Breakfast was a shambles, no proper food available. No juice, no coffee, just toast without butter. Everyone was complaining and annoyed. Had to leave and find a cafe.

Don't stay here unless you're...

Liked: The only things that kept us from walking out after going to a freezing cold worn out bedroom was the young very helpful lady on reception got us a portable heater, the bed was fairly comfortable but did not quite fit the base and very noisy. The car parking was free and on site
Disliked: Our room was freezing cold - the heating had not been switched on in either room before our arrival - we had the so called honeymoon suite - Quorndon suite room 201. We did make a few complaints over the 4 day stay including the pathetic English breakfast and lack of breakfast. The freezing cold room we had to sit to eat our warm child size portion breakfast in which on a few occasions the doors in reception were open to the elements, the young lady was so apologetic when asked about why there was one sausage, one dried up piece of bacon, one egg and dollop of warm baked beans on a very cold plate,!!!! We were told they were waiting for supplies - On a Saturday morning???! The whole experience nearly ruined our weekend away but only saved by the warmth on the steam trains we were visiting and the local excellent restaurants. The hotel is basically very run down and in need of new management before they have no more bookings and the hotel will be shut down unless that is what they want?! Hopefully the management will take note of every complaint I have read on here and relight the once beautiful hotel in beautiful new furnishings and decor and its grounds. Give your guests good well presented hot full english breakfast, choice of fresh fruit and yoghurts. Some of the staff were very friendly, the others were either walking around with their coats on and completely ignoring us as it was that cold everywhere you went in and round the hotel!!! One even questioned my request for a portable heater and said we had already an efficient heater.........The list is endless in this run down, tired unfriendly hotel. Shame on whoever owns this 3rd rate shambles. You should hang your head in shame - it's not even worth 1*

Pleasant

Liked: -Good location and walkable to amenities.-Room was large and bed was comfy enough.-Staff on reception were pleasant and welcoming.
Disliked: -Bath/shower is very dated and needs and upgrade plus the fan is very noisy. -Room in general could do with some tlc in places.-Breakfast was not a good experience with no atmosphere atall, very limited options and stuff not being restocked plus ingredients in the cooked breakfast tasted of poor quality.
