Dating back to 1375 Phi Hotel Bologna is one of Bologna's oldest boutique hotels in the historic city center. It combines 600 years of hospitality with modern facilities to ensure a pleasant stay next to Piazza Maggiore the city's main square. The Hotel is located in a restricted traffic area (ZTL) but guarantees access and offers a private paid garage on request (to be booked in advance) for those of you arriving by car. Expensive for what you get.

Liked: Great location
Disliked: Hotel is a bit tired and needs an update. Beds aren’t that comfy. Our room was really noisy so hard to sleep. Bathroom was broken with shower head detached from wall. Hard to get service at breakfast.

Exceptional

Liked: The breakfast consisted of a wide variety of things, it was a breakfast that appealed to everyone. The hotel is just 10 seconds away from Maggiore Square. Once we reached the hotel we had never used public transportation to see famous places.
Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: The hotel location is perfect. It’s a stones throw from the main piazza and the sightseeing tour busses, where there are lots of restaurants for dinner. The room was excellent and there was a great breakfast selection. The front desk staff were very friendly and informative.
Disliked: Really missed not having access to a bar for a night cap at the end of a long days sightseeing.

Nice and central stay in...

Liked: Central but relatively quiet location (off season) with a breakfast very worth booking and extremely helpful staff. Comfortable bed, room size is ok and good housekeeping service. The central location in the middle of Bologna is really the best of it all.
Disliked: It‘s a very old house with charm but badly sound insulated old, big windows. If people talk loud on the street or laugh/scream/sing during the night, there’s a high chance you’ll wake up. If not the city cleaning service emptying recycling glass in front of the street at 2 am will surely wake you up. So if you happen to have light sleep, I recommend you asking for a room facing to the back of the house.
