A mixed bag

Liked: very friendly staffgood color scheme of the hotel, rooms and lobbygood location
Disliked: the hallway on the 3d floor smelled really bad strong stench in the room (like acrylic paint)fungus in the bathroomvery inconvenient design in the bathroom:* the toilet paper was on the right side under the wall, which is almost impossible to get,if you do not twist completely on the toilet seat* they have put a frosted glass panel on the wall between the bathroom and the bed. If you go to the toilet at night, the lights from the bathroom illuminates the whole room and wakes up anyone who is sleepingthe bed linen had holes in it

Exceptional

Liked: I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room was clean and felt quite luxurious at a very affordable price. Staff was professional and nice. I enjoyed the area too, it had many bars and cute restaurants. Easy to move around by public transportation with bus stops as close as 300 from the hotel and Pilgramgasse U station only 5 mins walk away. I was concerned when I read the construction comments but it was nothing to bother anyone. No noises, no mess. The hotel is gonna be even more amazing once they’re done. I recommend.

Okay but slept lonely

Liked: Little bit stylish hotel, friendly staff, quiet cosy room
Disliked: We booked a 1 double bed, we got 2 single beds, I asked to change it but there weren't any available, they told me they would change it for the next day, the next day we got a double bed which was dirty and not sheeted, back to the single beds. After all: we asked 3 times to get a double bed, didn't get it

Not a Max Brown hotel

Liked: The location was convenient for me, though I likely while have picked another hotel more centrally if I'd have known at booking what my stay would be like. Breakfast was good, but there is a lot less choice as breakfast goes on, as items don't get replenished. I noticed this on my last day when I had breakfast 30 mins earlier and there was a much wider variety of pastries and fruits etc.
Disliked: The misrepresentation of the hotel was my main issue. I booked this hotel as I'd stayed in Max Brown hotels previously and had a really good experience. Unfortunately, despite booking a Max Brown hotel, I didn't stay in one, I stayed in the Penta Hotel. I understand work is ongoing to renovate the hotel, but having no description or photos of rooms you might be allocated is misrepresenting your product. When I was checking in, the room I had booked was not available, and I was offered a twin and to move the next day. I said I didn't want to move as it wouldn't fit in with my plans and I'd just stay in the twin, however I was placed in a double. Apparently a number of rooms had not been cleaned so there were fewer options. I also can't help but expect this was my option as a solo traveller and if I'd have been in a couple this wouldn't have been an option. Customer service around check in wasn't great and it was a case of this is what we have, just accept it. On customer service, I'd emailed the hotel twice before my stay asking about the renovation and had no reply. The room was an unrenovated Penta Hotel room and came without the facilities of a Max Brown room. The walls and carpets were stained, furniture was ripped and worn, the decor of the room was old fashioned and furniture was mismatched. I slept OK but noise from the corridor was noticeable inside. The pillows were shockingly bad. The bathroom was OK but beware it is partitioned by glass and the door does not close so if you're with another who you don't want to see or hear attending to their needs, look elsewhere. The hotel itself is undergoing lots of work, but even in the places which aren't actively being attended to, there are large chunks of wallpaper ripped off the walls and it feels like you're in a building site.Ultimately, I was very disappointed with my stay as I had booked a completely different hotel room to the one I had been given.

Very good

Liked: The facilities in the new rooms are nice. Breakfast was also good.
Disliked: We spent two nights here, but the first night didn’t go as expected. We were first placed in a room that differed from our original booking, as the hotel has two sections – an older part undergoing renovations and a newer, modern part on the higher floors. We immediately requested a change, but the guy at the reception said I should talk to the manager. The next morning, the manager promptly and gladly moved us to a more stylish, updated room.

1 star

Liked: Nothing good
Disliked: **"Not Worth the 4 Stars - Feels Like 1 Star at Best!"**I booked this hotel expecting a 4-star experience, but it was more like a 1-star nightmare. From the moment I walked in, the room felt depressing and outdated – far from anything remotely luxurious. The decor was drab, and it seemed like no effort was made to create a welcoming space. To make matters worse, there was no fridge in the room, which is usually a basic amenity, even in budget hotels. The lack of light was another huge disappointment. The room was so dim that it felt gloomy, adding to the overall uncomfortable atmosphere. This place needs serious improvement to deserve its rating. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone expecting a 4-star experience – I left feeling cheated.

Good hotel, but it was...

Liked: The breakfast was good, staff was friendly, beds were comfortable.
Disliked: The hotel was under construction, therefore during my whole stay the reception and bar area, and the elevators were not 100% operational/usable. While having breakfast it was full of noise because of the works and it was not super comfortable. I would have appreciated if I knew this before booking, not only 2 days before starting my holidays.
