Unreal hotel prices in NYC

Liked: Big rooms, next to the D train stop. The bathroom looked renovated.
Disliked: I booked it because the hotels in NYC were $700/night due to many hotels had being used as shelters for illegal immigrants, subsidized by the city tax money. So, the hotel is really old and pretty basic. It feels nothing like staying in Manhattan despite the $300 price per night. The train to get me to midtown Manhattan took 40’ and it was packed.
