Fantastic hotel on the Alhambra...
Liked: Location!! The hotel is a 5 min walk to Alhambra.
Disliked: We couldn’t turn the air temperature controller off. It appeared to be on heat despite the controller showing it to be on cooling.

Splendid location for visiting the...
Liked: The parador excels due to its location in midst the Al Hambra complex. We stayed in a modern room in the newer complex. Even more expensive rooms are located in the rooms of the old Franciscan convent, which was turned into the parador in the 1930s. We booked a guided tour of the Al Hambra via the parador, which I can highly recommend.
Disliked: If not for the location, the price would be high in relation to the room available.

disappointing for the cost
Liked: the location , the historic building, the garden
Disliked: the heating wasn't able to be lowered beyond 20 or able to be turned off. The extra 25% charge on room service from the already exorbitant cost of eating in the restaurant and cafeteria. It would be nice to have a bar for guests. Also a complimentary shuttle bus to take guests downtowns. Not enough complimentary additions in the room eg. more water, bar fridge, complimentary wine on arrival.

Short break perfection.
Liked: The Parador's location, within the Alhambra complex allowed us to make the most of our short break as we could easily access the various parts of the Alhambra as soon as they opened. We bought our Alhambra visitor tickets from the official site (search for "Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife"), well in advance so that we could plan our day around our timed slot in the Nasrid Palace complex. It was also very atmospheric at night; no other tourists or distractions, just us, the odd security guard and the various buildings & palaces. It was also relatively easy to walk to other interesting areas; The Albaicin (gypsy quarter), Sacromonte (Cave dwellings & museum), both needing good legs due to the hills involved, and the old city and its cathedral & interesting shops, bars & restaurants (an easy walk down, a steep uphill slog to get back). We took some evening meals in the Parador's main restaurant and in the bar area. Both were perfectly good and reasonably good value, considering the location. All the staff from front of house to the restaurant to the cleaners were friendly and professional. We travelled in December and the amount of daylight, the day/night temperatures and the relative lack of tourists was a real bonus. I have also been to Granada/Alhambra in the summer and I wouldn't do that again!
Disliked: We had a standard room, ground floor, which was a bit on the small side and lacking in storage, though it was fine for our short break. The Parador's bar does not have much ambience. On-site parking is €31 per day and once the car is parked, it's there for the duration of your stay.

Great hotel, great location, but...
Liked: We were checked in quite quickly and were able to go for lunch before checking in. Our room was lovely and spacious, the bathroom was lovely - huge walk-in shower with deluge and hand shower heads. Lovely scented shower gel, conditioner and shampoo. Body lotion too. Good light, beautiful shutters to block out the sun. Very comfortable bed. Good a/c, although could not quite turn it off completely. Good breakfast was nice, although the only hot breakfast you could have was all kinds of eggs - I don’t eat eggs or bacon - pescatarian.
Disliked: I was very disappointed. Two of us were celebrating a birthday one 70th, my friend, and myself. I gave heavy hints when booking the hotel that it would be lovely to receive a complimentary gift each for our birthdays - we were after all, paying €1,900 for 2 rooms bed and breakfast. Only one room received some not that great biscuits, the 70th birthday person got nothing ! I wasn’t very happy about this. The main reason we chose a Parado was that we thought that it would have a ‘fine dining’ restaurant or at least a very good one - the one we went to in Nerja had one. Here at Granada the menu for lunch was the same menu for dinner in the ‘signature restaurant’ quite low budget ! Even though I told the hotel about the fact I was arranging a friends’s 70th birthday event and asked them if the restaurant would be a’fine dining’ experience, which they said it was. I was quite embarrassed by this - he was probably expecting more. The night of his birthday we asked the hotel to recommend a very good fish restaurant. They recommended one in Granada which we decided to go to as it was in the town, to have a nice experience. The restaurant inside when we arrived was beautiful, but we were directed (indeed insisted) to dine outsside, even though it was December ! Whilst it was warm with the patio heaters around and indeed under the table, the ambience left a lot to be desired for a celebratory birthday (plastic sheet separating one restaurant from the other. The food was not that great at all. The fish whilst fresh, had no real flavour, no nice sauces, or even olive oil to bring out the delicate flavour of the fish. The pil pil was just prawns fried in insipid oil, no spices at all. Not the Parador’s fault, but why on earth did they recommend this restaurant to us! We would have been better off walking around to finding something ourselves! It was not at all what we were looking for ! For us, they got our aim of staying there totally wrong, and it did spoilt my event for me.
