Fun hotel! Great spot if...
Liked: The staff is excellent! Really kind and friendly. You'll fall in love with the housekeeping staff as you run into them all around the hotel. The hotel has such a cool vibe and I love the history of it. The room was great. The rooftop access was awesome and is a great place to hang out and watch the sunset. Loved the swedish fish while we wait for the elevator. We stayed in a king suite and the room was pretty spacious. We stayed on the top floor but loved that the building was strong enough construction where we weren't hearing people's footsteps or anything.
Disliked: If you're looking for peace and quiet or go to bed before 2am, this hotel isn't for you. It's really close to restaurants and bars that are open late into the night, and you'll hear sound through the windows. Area is a little sketchy. Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. The elevator was slow, but it's the old style with the gate that automatically closes. Getting into and out of the elevator is confusing for some guests, and we saw a guest get their finger crushed in the elevator. The hotel staff warn about this, but it can still happen. Only one elevator was working and it would stop at a bunch of random floors. Mini fridge in room filled with stuff, so don't expect to store any restaurant leftovers, or be able to microwave them - it's not that kind of suite. Lastly, why are there always door slammers?! The doors here are heavy (building is really strong construction), and the doors slam loudly! The hotel can't really do anything about it but if you're reading, stop slamming doors :)

Superb
Liked: I love the location and the decor. The rooftop bar and the restaurant attached to the hotel are great too.
Disliked: You have to call the front desk for a bucket of ice (no ice machine available) but they are pretty fast.

Loved the retro and Euro...
Liked: Great boutique hotel that is very well maintained and well-appointed while conveying a vintage European feel. The location was excellent too given its proximity in heart of Gaslamp District. It’s not a Ritz or Grand Hyatt so if that’s your thing it may not be for you but I thought it was great and loved the charm and location!
Disliked: Not a big deal for me but the original elevator aka is among the first ever and both small and slow at times. I thought its historic nature to be very cool but those less patient over an added minute or two waiting may need to take a chill pill between enjoying this hotel’s unique ambiance.

Liked: It is such a wonderfully presented hotel; it felt very homely. The staff in the Hotel and the adjacent restaurant were fantastic! The hotel had a fabulous roof terrace and the fastest elevators in the world. (In 1913, they were so slow by today's standards, but the plaque above the buttons will make you smile while you wait to get to your floor!)
Disliked: Having to leave!

Charm in the heart of...
Liked: What a fabulous little gem this hotel is. When booking this hotel you need to be aware it is a very old ( but beautiful) hotel. The rooms are small but perfectly formed, the walls are thin although we had very little noise disturbing us and the lift (an authentic old lift dating back to 1915) is a little slow. All of these things lead to the charm that this hotel has. The beds were so comfortable. The rooftop is a delightful to catch the sunset. If you want large rooms a speedy lifts then this is not the hotel for you. If you want old charm then look no further.
Disliked: Nothing

good location, get a room...
Liked: Nice property, quirky and old style. Comfy bed. Nice roof terrace.
Disliked: The room felt like a cupboard, albeit a large one! No real natural light. It would have been challenging to stay for more than two nights.
