A good stay which was...
Liked: Our stay was a birthday treat for me and we originally booked a stableblock double room as being previous guests we know they’re spacious and have decent sized beds, but we also booked with free cancellation: my husband is waiting for a hospital appointment. When we checked in we were put in room 139 of the house, stableblock rooms evidently taken. It was a smaller room, but comfortable with an excellent bathroom. However the bed was a double rather than a king which we would have preferred. Breakfast the next morning was excellent with a good selection of hot and cold food, and in particular a nice platter of sliced fresh fruit which I loved as I’m not a ‘Full English’ breakfast person. We ate out with friends both evenings so did not try the Ramblewood Inn or the Huntley restaurant. However we did use the pool facilities both days and found these to be excellent including the helpful towels left in our room.
Disliked: The noise during the second night of our stay: a Christmas party was being held in the rooms below our wing of the house. The noise was the booming base of the music, but additionally guests seemed to be having periodic sessions of extra noisy behaviour, possibly going out for fresh air or a smoke: the outside doors opened onto our corridor stairwell. About 3am, giggly females ran along our corridor and knocked on a door further along, and 30 mins later a male person also knocked on a door further along, but in speaking to a fellow guest next morning we think the male was from reception addressing a complaint about the noise. We ourselves complained to reception next morning, apologies were offered, but it was also explained that although some rooms are often taken out of use when functions are on because of the noise, our corridor was not thought to be near enough to be an issue, and also the hotel was quite full that night. This would not prevent us visiting the hotel again, but we would certainly avoid busy times like Christmas.
