Relaxing resort in the PA...

Liked: The spa was great. It would have been nice to have the Bedford bath included in the hotel stay. I had a spa booking on 2 separate days, so I was able to use the spa area 2 days in a row. The spa area has a very nice relaxing sitting room with snacks for lounging around in your spa robe. The spa is bathing suit required, even though it is separate for men and women. The staff at the spa were very nice and skilled. I got a pedicure and a manicure. They have an indoor pool filled with mineral water and an outdoor pool. I swam laps in the indoor pool. The shallow end was only 2 feet deep. The deep end was 5 feet deep. The hotel had a delicious afternoon tea in the lobby on one out of 4 days that I was there. Breakfast was delicious but not included in the room rate. It is buffet or a la carte. I liked this historic hotel (I grew up in an 1880s farmhouse). The renovations were appropriate. There is only 1 elevator that goes all the way down to the ground floor, so be prepared for a lot of walking. I wanted to book a Luxury Spa Suite but that part of the hotel is hypoallergenic with no dogs. I brought my dog with me so we had a different room booking. There are several restaurants to choose from but they are all American food. The room service has a subset of dishes from one of the restaurants. The outdoor area is landscaped beautifully with hydrangeas which have phenomenal blooms this year. There are paths in the woods and a gravel path that goes to Bedford if you follow it for a mile or more. I had a good time here with my dog. The parking situation is valet here, which is nice. My dog greeted very person he saw and the other folks staying in the hotel were all very nice. It's an older crowd with mostly retirees but also a few families with young children. The children are all in the outdoor pool during the afternoon. It's a relaxing resort in the countryside.
Disliked: The King sized room was smaller than my bedroom at home. With 2 people and a dog, it was small. My dog loved it though. I would have preferred to book a suite with separate rooms (such as a sitting area and a bedroom). There are a lot of rules and conditions that you agree to upon arrival with your dog. The paper I signed said that if the dog is creating a nuisance (such as excessive barking or whining), the staff would come and collect the dog for return to the owner later. I did not want that to happen! My dog doesn't bark unless someone knocks on the door and he spends most of the day sleeping. All the food was really heavy American food which upset my digestion over the 4 days I was there. This place is really expensive considering that it is in PA. There are outdoor fire pits that are lit by the staff but then not monitored closely. Guests mess with the fires so it becomes very smoky. I have asthma so I avoided going outside at night unless I needed to walk my dog. I thought I could book an umbrella at the outdoor pool but you can only book cabanas. The staff will not move the umbrellas around, so you have to get lucky with getting a poolside seat shaded by an umbrella. The pillows in the rooms are feather by default. I could not figure out why my allergies were so bad until the penultimate day when I realized I needed to request foam pillows. Staff brought the pillows and all was well. The walls are thin and you can hear the guests beside you. There was a shrieking child and a loud man in the room next to us. The bedrooms are separated by the bathrooms in between but you can still hear everything if your neighbors are loud.

General pleasant and relaxing stay.

Liked: We like the location and the general area. Good selection of restaurants on site.
Disliked: Staff could be more friendly. We found arrival staff less than personable. Beau a bell person was condescending. Furniture in the room need updating, Nightly bonfire smoke was unpleasant when searing on the porch. Not sure why bonfires are necessary when the temps were in the mid-90s.
