Family weekend stay

Liked: We have stayed at this Hotel a few times now and it's everything you need for a few nights stay. The beds are very comfy it's clean and the owners are lovely and helpful. There are also tea/coffees in the room. The rooms are very quiet to get a good night's rest. I will definitely be coming back.
Disliked: Nothing to say in this section everything was wonderful.

Liked: The receptionist's manner was very good, and she understood customer service. She seemed to be working under extreme circumstances for which we commiserateStarting DIDN'T LIKE:Regular visitors to Birmingham, to see family, they suggested this outfit for our stay, a change: expensive, but a bit of a luxury stay for us grandparents. Booked through Booking.com, all fine, standard double room @ £125. Ground floor with wet room. Got there to find the bed against the wall. Impossible to move the bed out. And to get up in the night (frequent need) the idea of crawling out of bed rather than trampling my partner was also impossible as a shelf (supposed dressing table?) blocked one in.
Disliked: My partner went to request a change of room, and I retired to the wet room/toilet. It stank of damp. The flooring was correctly curved up the wall only on one wall. The rest including the area under the spout (shower) merely had beading holding the mould in. Pipework and drainage were all exposed and the only mirror, a small shaving effort. There was no toilet paper in this £125/night hovel. In response, the remarkably friendly and helpful reception person conveyed a message from the ‘owner’ that there were only ‘classic’ rooms available at an extra £25/night. Insulted by the proprietor’s dismissal of our concern, we indicated that the existing offer did not match the notion of a £125/night hotel. The ‘boss’ then barged in declaring that there was a photo on her website showing the bed budged against the wall and we were failing, having not looked for that. She was not at fault. She said the room was as described. Objections about the overpricing and the state of the bathroom were overruled. The rooms were excellent, her cleaners diligent. The absence of toilet rolls, when pointed out, a lack of checking, not a high standard, was dismissed as an error and the rolls were kept in a cupboard across the hall (seemingly suffice to dismiss the discomfort experienced). The ‘upgrade’ upstairs was still small but possible to navigate around the bed. Standing, arms akimbo in the bathroom did mean elbows touching the wall either side, such was the inferior width. Less mould (pic) But there was a wall mirror. It also had a lamp above it. The lamp did not work. It was possible that a cupboard 'across the hall' stored replacement bulbs but… There was a garden, visible from the room(pic). The children playing noisily waved at us, but we enjoy laughing little ones. The poss unmarked fire escape door?/headboard would keep the head cool on a chilly night. (pic)

Liked: Lovely private owner who clearly work hard and were very welcoming when I turned up very early for arrival and then for breakfast
Disliked: Location is great, room and space was clean and well kept, it's not one of those places which looks all the same, something I like. It had a bit more character. The room was large enough and comfortable.

Passable

Liked: Location was good. The waitress that served us at breakfast on Tuesday and Wednesday morning was lovely.
Disliked: The gentleman that was very rude to us on arrival. We didn't feel welcome at all. Very cold room on arrival, cold dining room, and cold food. Room very small.
