The Hilton Midtown obviously doesn't need to work very hard to please it's guests. We were told at check in they have a 98% occupancy rate, largely due to convention and business travel. Too bad for those of us not on a company expense account.

Liked: Location is fabulous.
Disliked: This was our second stay in four years. There won't be a third. You expect a large hotel in the heart of midtown to be busy. And it is. What you should expect from a Hilton is service and convenience. This was not our experience. We didn't get our room cleaned on the first day because we were still in the room at 10 when housekeeping called. Amenities in our room did not include a mini bar, coffee maker or free wifi. Our room was accessible, which we did not request or require. This meant our bathroom was spacious with no counter space. Minor inconveniences that add up when you consider the room rate (high).

We love New York but...

Disliked: Staff were not particularly friendly at best. Very in personable. Check in was awful. You had to pay to leave luggage. Sofa bed wasn’t made up for us and no linen even to do it ourselves. One of the lifts was out of order so caused long queues to use the other 2. Lighting in the bedroom was very dim and not possible to switch on/off from the bed. The customer service telephone line just rang out.
