This historic looking hotel is...
Liked: Bar warmed by log fires. Two resident dogs which we didn't mind.Staff were ok Worked hard.
Disliked: Bedrooms cold, no radiators on. Bed warm enough but seen its better days.Evening meal not home-cooked. Breakfast average. Not accessible - stairs to bedrooms, stairs to bar/restaurant toilets. Décor needs an upgrade. Wooden single glazed windows beginning to rot. (Quite probably a listed building).

Cosy and charming, rooms just...
Liked: Really nice friendly staff. Good food. Cosy quirky classic British pub which is what we wanted
Disliked: There was quite a lot of dust round the edges of the carpet in the room could do with pulling everything out and having a good hoover. Some pillows were lumpy and need to be replaced

Lovely spot. Warm and welcoming.
Liked: Excellent breakfast (good quality ingredients). Old fashioned hotel with a walk back in time public bar full of local characters (other less exciting but just as comfortable seating areas available). Roaring fire. Gorgeous old collie dog Winston regally in residence and newcomers made welcome. StoneHouse pub down the road very good value and quality food but very unpretentious. (Was so good that I just kept going back there for evening meals) Happy staff willing to help. Lovely welcome. Right on top of the square looking at The Spirit in the Sky Red Kite statue which is stunning. Handy corner shop and church museum. Small town where everyone knows one another.
Disliked: Bedroom comfortable but a bit tired. Shower area cosy. Not for those who want a sanitised corporate experience. This is a small town with real people propping up the bar.

Disappointing
Liked: The staff and proprietor were really friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very nice and satisfying, the location was very good with a nice atmosphere.
Disliked: The hotel was a bit tired and dated, widows in room were draughty and needed cleaning the bed was uncomfortable and needed a topper or new mattress, the long steep stairs to the rooms was extremely difficult and really needed a lift of some sort, the shower over the bath did not have a wall hook so it had to be held whilst showering, only one bedside light for reading, the overbed light was not adequate for this purpose all in all a bit disappointing for the money paid.
