The Moxy's superb staff make...

Liked: The staff at the Moxy are top-notch; helpful, kind, friendly, and patient (Duncan in particular was fantastic). I have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about each employee I encountered, from housekeeping to night desk. They all deserve raises. This place is impeccably located and manages to be quirky and idiosyncratic without being pretentious or overbearing. It's clean, warm, and safe.
Disliked: All of my dislikes are relatively superficial, but the spartan nature of the accommodations was still pretty shocking for the price I paid. I would have appreciated at least a small refrigerator. That said, I knew what I was getting into when I booked the room, so this is more a critique of the business model than the hotel itself.

Do not promise any accommodations...

Liked: I liked the location as it was in the middle of the sites we were planning on visiting.
Disliked: The staff, particularly the Asian/white gentleman with the mustache. My partner asked him about the champagne and chocolate that we were supposed to be welcomed with and he said they never approved it which was disappointing because someone had told us via email before our stay that it would be provided. It’s fine if it wasn’t possible but he should have had better customer service. Also, the phone didn’t work so whenever we needed something we had to go downstairs ourselves which is inconvenient. The fire alarm also kept going off when we did nothing to trigger it. I probably will not be staying at the Moxy in Portland ever again which is sad to say because the New York location which I stayed at was fantastic.
