Truly unique
Liked: The rooms are charming and efficiently put together, the location is unique and the tours are fabulous. I don't think you would find a gloworm tour like that anywhere else!
Disliked: My only small comment is that it might be good to have some warning about the narrowness of the lane, when you first turn off the road it does look like the drive may go nowhere, but once you start making your way down it is fine.

Liked: The glow worm tour and farm tour were amazing, so cool to see glow worms up close. The breakfast included was lovely. Tim and Debbie were exceptional hosts would definitely stay again

Pleasant
Liked: We actually did not stay. We arrived after a long day of driving, our navigation got us lost on numerous gravel, one-lane roads, and were hungry and tired. The hosts are very friendly, and to stay here your intention should be that the Eco Sanctuary is your holiday purpose, as the hosts prepare you breakfast, take you on walks, etc. The room was cute but very tiny, and smelled strongly of damp and cleanser. You can’t argue with damp when in the forest which is where this location is, but it did not appeal to us. The room was also very small, and I particularly needed room to do physiotherapy exercises due to a recent broken shoulder. We had to go out to eat, and on the winding road into town, we shared our thoughts. We decided to stay elsewhere because it was not what we needed. More space, and being able to walk in Tauranga at the waterfront was more suited to our holiday. We informed Mount Tutu that we would not be returning, and checked into a Motel.

Quirky, exciting, unusual, informative. Why...
Liked: Location was amazing. It is a winding road to get there but well worth it. You have to see the glooms at night. Quite incredible. Leaves Waitomo for dead!! The track down to the stream is a bit of a challenge if you are a bit infirm. But not dangerous. Tim and Debbie are wonderful hosts and the breakfast delicious. The tour around the property in the morning was very informative and Tim is a fountain of knowledge of the native flora and fauna. Feeding the sheep, goat and chickens was a city slicker’s new experience!! The experience is well worth the cost.
Disliked: This is an eco-sanctuary so a lot of the construction of cabins 18 years ago has been recycled and it is getting a bit tired now. The bed was not the best.

Liked: Can't say enough good thing about Debbie and Tim. They are great hosts and local guides willing to teach you about or help you with anything you need. We loved learning about their restoration efforts, meeting their animals, and seeing their beautiful glow worm display. There's certainly no way you could get bored here.

Liked: Lovely complimentary glowworm tour, with the hosts giving fascinating insights and telling great stories. Breakfast was delicious. We also loved feeding the chicken and sheep.
Disliked: Mold was evident on shower. Room is very small, but not the main thing about staying here.
