Exceptional

We were disappointed after looking...

Liked: Location was excellent as was the veranda and restaurant.
Disliked: Renovations to the tower wing were a nuisance and started from 9am. Even though we received advanced notice of these works, the noise was worse than expected. The tower rooms are very outdated and this was very disappointing. The Surfrider is a period property that prides itself on its history BUT regrettably the ownership/management has done the property a huge disservice by presenting it with stained carpets, broken furniture and refrigerators that do not work. The hallway carpets were also badly worn and stained which detracted from the whole experience. Balcony doors were locked due to the renovations and this made the rooms very stuffy. We were relocated to a smaller Banyan wing room which was better.

Liked: Since I have a phobia of pigeon it was to much at the hotel main area inside for me to relax
Disliked: The only dinning option was where the pigeon was at so I couldn’t leave my room until night time to eat

Avoid...under construction

Liked: The historic structure is beautiful
Disliked: We were notified there would be construction 9-5 weekdays. On 2 mornings the jackhammering starting at 5:30AM and woke us up. Also, we were scheduled to be in the historic part of the hotel, but on check in the clerk encouraged us to take a room in the tower, which we did bc we thought he knew what he was talking about. Turns out that's where all the construction is going on (bc they had one of the balconies collapse and fall down!!) So we were put in a room in Hawaii where you cannot open the balcony or get fresh air! Imagine that...in Hawaii and you can't feel the ocean breeze from your room bc your sliding dood is soldered shut for the construction! I would avoid this hotel until the construction is finished.

Liked: easy check-in, lovely atmosphere during christmas season with decorations, convenient of stores within hotel and outside of hotel
Disliked: we could hear all noise from the city side of the street below. We thought the windows were open at first, but it was just really loud. I had to sleep with noise canceling headphones.

Absolutely awesome hotel, simply the...

Liked: The absolute BEST location on Waikiki Beach!! We LOVE everything about this property and stay here in december every year!!Such a pleasure to stay here right on the beach. Absolutely love the hotel in December decorated beautifully for Christmas! The Coffee shop right next to the entrance is a real gem. The dining restuarants in the hotel are next level amazing too!! Dining next to the beach with the pool is just fabulous!!
Disliked: Some of the rooms will need redecorating in the next few years when it comes due as with all repairs and maintenance. This is a super nit picky observation though.
