Stay away

Liked: Nothing just awful experience
Disliked: My partner and I stayed in your hotel on the 14th February for two nights. We were asked on check in if we had any plans for dinner, we had already had a confirmation about our dinner plans for 8pm but it didn't seem reception were aware of this.We were shown to our room which upon arriving realised it was an accessible room (101). This wasn't a great issue but not what we were expecting. This was even more obvious when there was a shower chair left in there. My partner was not very happy as there was pubic hair and dirt on the wetroom floor and the shower head looked as if it wasn't fixed to the ceiling properly. After her shower she had to mop up the water that had gone all over the floor. This could be quite dangerous for someone with mobility issues, the iron in the room is not working correct, and ruined a silk dress of my partners even though it was on the silk option and it just leaks water everywhere. We went down to the bar about 15 minutes before our dinner reservation for a drink, we were stood at the bar for 10 minutes without getting served. It seemed staff were more interested in polishing glasses, pouring the wrong drinks for other guests and checking their phones whilst we were stood there. We still were not served even after all this time even though the bar was not busy. They were just serving other people who had only just gone up to the bar.We went over to the restaurant desk empty handed to be seated where we waited another 10 minutes with no sign of staff to seat us. Eventually we were seated with no offer of drinks or water. We waited 35 minutes before anybody came over to take an order of drinks and food. We ordered a bottle of sparkling water and a pint of Guinness and a vodka and soda. The water came over but no sign of our drinks. We waited 20 minutes for starters to arrive with still no sign of drinks. After finishing our starters our drinks had arrived. We ordered a bottle of wine when starters were being cleared

Exceptional

Liked: Facilities were fantastic, and the staff were always helpful and pleasant
Disliked: Arriving early evening when it's dark outside... there could be better lighting on the sign post on arrival and along that long road.

Lovely venue. Would stay again...

Liked: The venue itself was lovely, very clean and cleaning staff and reception staff were lovely. The spa seemed very nice and the staff there were really welcoming. Happy with the room we got, also lots of parking.
Disliked: The restaurant was a bit of a shambles. They were trialling a new menu and it was not very good. Food was a bit bland. The restaurant staff were very rude apart from the manager. They seemed to have no idea what they were doing. We were left 20 mins waiting to sit for our pre booked table, then 20 mins when we sat down waiting to get a drink order. No water for the table when we asked, starters came before the drinks did. Was not seen to again after first drinks. One waiter slammed our mains down on the table and then cleared them when we were done. Had to ask for cutlery as was not given more between courses. A lot of other couples walked out without desserts because of the poor service. My partner and me had to walk up to the waiter to pay because we were left sitting for so long. When getting a drink after this at the bar it appeared the bar staff were not very experienced either. It seemed the manager was running everything alone as the other staff did not seem to be supporting or organised at all.

Very poor

Liked: Not much
Disliked: Change of ownership mid stay. Extra charges for using pool etc which you should know about prior! Put a registered disabled guest up 30 odd stairs with no lift so family ended up being split up in different buildings!

Food options and restaurant disappointing

Liked: The room was amazing and the old hall was stunning
Disliked: The staff require more training. Checking in took a LONG time with people queueing around Reception. Staff were slow but explained a new system had been installed. They have my sympathy but their inadequate training took the enjoyment out of our visit.People who had paid the extra £10 to use the Spa were walking around, between buildings, in their robes and slippers. I would have been very unhappy doing this, if I had been them.It was VERY disappointing that the only restaurant available was not to the standard expected and the menu was limited.
