We had a 2 night stay - my husband booked the Friday night and I the Saturday night. The receptionist said it would be OK to keep the same room for both nights - however, when returning to our room on Saturday afternoon the key wouldn't work, so we had to get it sorted out with reception. Seems there is no communication between staff. Apart from that, a very enjoyable stay.
Liked: Comfortable bed!
Disliked: Breakfast - no one to greet you and explain how the system worked.

This was a comfortable stay,...
Liked: The room was comfy, as was the bed. There was plenty of space to unpack into.Dinner was ok, breakfast was good and staff prepared fresh poached eggs for us nicely. Staff were friendly and helpful to us at all times, especially when the coffee machine leaked all over the dressing table.
Disliked: A firmer pillow option would have been nice. The bathroom is rather dated, and the shower curtain clings while you shower...ugh. Why not look at the type used by Premier Inn? The shower water temperature is either very hot or cold.Dinner: the chicken wings starter was nicely cooked but rather mean for the money, especially compared to the "cauliflower wings". The chicken curry was bland, unimaginative and very starchy. Some veggies would have been nice.I was sorry to see another guest turned away at breakfast time when they were a few minutes late. There was still plenty of food out, as we were still eating. Staff directed them away to an industrial site, and not even across the road to Notcutts. Staff said they weren't "bothered" after the guest had gone. I don't think you were so overwhelmed with customers that this was at all necessary.

Very comfortable and adequate for...
Liked: An excellent place to stay
Disliked: The dining room is very stark and cold - the lights are far too bright (LED?)and it lacks the warmth and ambience one would normally expect in a hotel dining room. Very cold colouring and pretentious lights one the table - either have proper candles or nothing and not artificial flowers. A design re-vamp is urgently needed. Very pricey - for fish and chips! Next time I'll go the chippy in Town

Liked: I recently stayed at the Mercure in Tunbridge Wells, and I have to say, the staff really made the experience stand out. From the moment I arrived, they were incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home. It’s rare to find such friendly, attentive service, and honestly, it set the tone for the whole stay. The room itself was a pleasant surprise, very comfortable. The layout felt cozy without being cramped, and the little touches really made it feel welcoming. But here's the real treat, the amount of chocolate. I don’t know who made that decision, but I sincerely thank them. The mini bar was stocked with an impressive amount of chocolate treats. It’s like they knew exactly what I needed after a long day of traveling. Definitely a sweet little detail that made the stay even more enjoyable.
