Rude staff and poor maintenance
Disliked: When my dad was taking a shower, one of the lights in the bathroom popped, causing the breaker to trip. The bathroom went completely dark, so he couldn’t finish showering. Apparently, the light was already flickering when he first switched it on— poor maintenance. It was just after 10 PM, so I called the "after-hours" number provided. No one answered. I then tried another number listed on the hotel information sheet, but still no luck. It was around 10:10 PM, I decided to go to the reception to see if anyone was still there. As I approached, I saw two guys coming out of the reception. They both looked like hotel guests because they were not wearing uniforms. I went inside, but the counter was unattended. I rang the bell and waited. That’s when one of the guys returned and, in an accusing tone, asked, "Did you just walk in!?"I wasn’t sure who he was since he was wearing a t-shirt and shorts. He continued, "What can I do for you?" I explained the situation, and his reply was, "There’s nothing we can do now. You need to wait until tomorrow, my friend. Can you just pop out?" This is exactly how he spoke to me. His tone was rude and dismissive, which was very frustrating. Not sure if he sensed my frustration, but he finally asked for my room number and said, "Can you wait in front of your room? I’ll check the circuit breaker." He flipped the breaker back on, and we got the lights back on—except for the light that had popped, of course, but at least it wasn’t completely dark anymore.I made a formal complaint about the unpleasant experience, and the receptionist assured me the manager would get back to me. However, it’s been three days since we checked out, and I haven’t heard anything. I guess Mercure doesn’t take guest complaints seriously. What a shame.

Liked: My wife and myself booked 2 nights accommodation at the Mercure as it was very centralised to Bimbadgen Estate for the Take That concert we were attending. The rooms were the highest quality and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. During our stay we also did some wine tasting at DeBortoli's Hunter Valley, we went to the Hunter Valley Chocolate and Fudge factory, had dinner at Harrigans Pub and attended the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas lights. The furthest we travelled from our location was only a 10 minute drive. It has beautiful manicured lawns and gardens and is the perfect location for a weekend getaway, corporate stay or to host an event
Disliked: The worst thing was potentially spider webs when we went on a walk from the Mercure to Hunter Valley gardens at night. There are some big spider webs and spiders if you try cutting through the trees and bush. Other than that everything was very good

Nice location. And nice staff...
Liked: Nice location and gardens
Disliked: No bath soap left o the dispensers. Also the walls are very thin and next door kept us awake all night. The place is filled with star jasmine vines which are highly allergenic

Solid location for the wineries....
Liked: Great location for wineries and reasonably priced in comparison to other hotels in the area.
Disliked: A touch dated and a lot of staff in training. Didn’t feel the welcome was overly warm. Also found the breakfast quite expensive for the quality/selection.
