Hotel with a warm welcome...

Liked: This is our second stay at Merchant’s Manor. It is very close to our daughter’s student house and a pleasant walk into town and also to the beach. The main building is striking and the entrance hall with grand staircase has that ‘wow factor’. The bar/breakfast/lounge area has lots of comfy seating and high ceilings. The building is surrounded by lush gardens and from some rooms there views of the sea over the rooftops. We also had a balcony but these do have quite high walls separating them from other rooms - good for privacy but not so much for letting in light. The pool and steam room are a nice bonus.
Disliked: Some rooms in the extension bit are at some distance from the main house. This is not a problem for the able-bodied but the corridor does feel a bit long and soulless in a building that has so much character elsewhere. Our room was large but the bathroom was the same size as we have had in a smaller room. And it had a partly glazed door but no window so switching on the light at night illuminated the whole room and the whine of the automatic fan would be enough to wake the heaviest of sleepers. The hot tub in the spa has not been functioning on either of our visits.

Liked: Lovely building. Lovely shared dining/ bar area.Slightly tired in room and pool.But very happy for the price we paid.Staff very friendly.We enjoyed our stay.Thank you.

Room fine, but food on...

Disliked: Breakfast poor, Coffee was tepid everyday served in "french press" coffee makers but the coffee was clearly instant and not the best. Nothing on the breakfast menu was freshly prepared or cooked on site. There was 1 choice for an evening meal and this same choice was repeated on 2 successive evenings and was again poor.
