1st time stay - hubz...

Liked: Room was front facing so amazing view of garden entrance in morningVery spacious roomStaff go above and beyond and listen Very helpful and friendly Concierge service to take bag to room Lovely large bath Fitness/Spa modern which was lovely but not enough loungers Great location to shopping centres and other food places outwith hotelBreakfast fruit was fresh n well laid out Dart board was great but only 1 dart The staff kept bday cake in fridge for us which helped and brought out when we requested next day.
Disliked: The hotel is under refurbishment Very outdated decor, carpets Our room smelt awful. Apparent toilet backup smells (or dead person as my hubz stated) and wouldn't go. Got air freshners to try eliminate odour but felt sick when near door or bathroom Room didn't have shower caps5poster bed but TV in wrong area so can't watch whilst in bed. Fire place in room would have been amazing if could be litWindows sash case very draughty 1 portable heater so room was freezing Phone buttons for reception didn't work well No halal meat ie chicken to offer just sea food for dinner so didn't have meal at hotel as intended. Should have varietyBreakfast hash browns or potato scones for us vegetarians would have been great. Veg saug was horrid Bit of maze to navigate to room as signs were all over place since refurb

A very disappointing experience

Disliked: My room was a far cry from the light and luxurious photos on the website; it was dark and dingy with an old, grubby brown carpet and dated decor - very different to what I was led to expect. There was a layer of dust covering the phone and glasses in the room which would suggest it had not been used or cleaned for some time. The toilet had a dried urine stain on the seat which is, frankly, unacceptable. As well as the room being dingy and depressing, it was grossly overheated; there was no way to adjust the radiator and the windows both in the room and the bathroom were jammed shut. Not only could I not ventilate the room, as the weekend progressed the windows became completely steamed up so what limited view I had from the tiny window (which was largely of a wall and scaffolding) was further obscured. The room I was allocated was located by a fire door which slammed at regular intervals and was extremely disruptive to sleep (I was woken throughout the night) which compounded the poor sleep I had due to the temperature of the room. Aside from the above issues, it was not clear to me when I booked that there would be disruptive work going on with scaffolding obscuring views, disrupted routes throughout the hotel and very noisy works. The fire alarm was triggered at 8.30 am on the Saturday morning requiring the entire hotel to be evacuated. I paid what I would deem to be a lot of money to have what I thought would be a relaxing and luxurious weekend in Scotland buty experience was a far cry from this. I emailed the hotel to feed back on my experience and received no acknowledgement.

Beautiful grounds and hotel has...

Liked: The swimming pool was lovely - the rest of the hotel was getting refurbished and was poor . Our rooms 34, 35, 36 were fine but the entrance was like going through dirty staff quarters in the basement
Disliked: The sofa’s in the drinks area were filthy and past their best .Whilst the breakfast was tasty - the lack of communication from staff was poor. The girls seemed less motivated compared with the restaurant’s serving staff from the night before.

Liked: Been welcomed by the lovely Arlene and the personal touch check in service she delivered.The room was lovely
Disliked: The heat in the hotel was unbearable, especially in the bedroom, which caused me to get very little sleep that was disappointing.The automatic charge on drinks was a surprise, and I was not informed about this prior.Getting to the room was not ideal lift to lower level then a walk up windy stairs and lots of corridors.Not having access to all areas due to renovation which was not advertised when booking which was disappointing.

Liked: Location, staff, food, leisure facilities
Disliked: While there is some small disruption due to ongoing renovation, most of this was very well managed. However the stench of sewage from our bathroom was vile. Must be the drains as it was not a cleanliness issue but it was honking

Liked: Had a nice stay and staff tried hard to make it a good experience. Amazing sized room and lovely outlook.
Disliked: Hotel under renovation and very slow bar and restaurant service although staff tried very hard under difficult make do facilities.
