Lovely building, which has been...
Liked: The bedroom was spacious. The bathroom was very nice. The staff were polite.
Disliked: The postcode given on the Booking.com website simply lead to an inaccessible service area. It was very difficult to find at night time. I rang twice on the number given on this Booking.com website. It was diverted to a mobile phone twice and was not answered.I was not given any help with my heavy bags to my room (I am elderly) and was not warned that they were 18 steep steps to my room and I had to make three trips on my own.Although my room was spacious it smelt of wet paint. The telephone did not work so I could not order any room service. I had to go downstairs and order. There was little room service anyway as I was told the restaurant closed at 9 pm so I was lucky to get a bowl of soup at 8:50.The headboard of my bed and many of the seats were badly stained. Photographs attached. The floor leading from my part of the building to the reception area was uneven and the carpet very badly finished and stained. The breakfast buffet was limited and the self-service area very cramped for such a large number of customers in the restaurant.

Needs a makeover
Liked: Quiet overnight
Disliked: Room 400 large and featureless. No art work. Dated brown furniture. No tissues. Fridge in odd position. Very uncomfortable bucket chairs. No USB charging points in plugs. No topping on bed bases so a hard ridge down the middle of the double bed. Breakfast room had crumbs in corners, chairs were frayed and torn and not fit for purpose, staff standing around chatting about personal lives, no artwork, glass panel covered in food deposits, orange juice synthetic. Cost over £200 and not worth it.

Ok, bed was clean and...
Liked: Beautiful old building but very tired room, bed was clean but overall not very , wallpaper torn, tired furniture, lovely size and view, mouldy windows and the toilet was very stained in top of bowl, shower only ran freezing cold or boiling hot, had to have a very hot shower which was uncomfortable, we did report it to reception, both the sink taps ran warm and dripped. Corridor smelt odd , not pleasant but room smell was ok
Disliked: It’s a beautiful building, just needs a refresh, very tired. The restaurant and reception were fresher and cleaner

Good hotel overall in lovely...
Liked: Big rooms and good location
Disliked: I was in a room that was next to the health club and I could hear when the classes were going on. WiFi speed was not good. I should have asked to be moved, so that’s on me, but I believe I should have been warned before checking in.

Disappointed
Liked: good value for money. Room
Disliked: maybe I didnt read the small print but was forced to put £50 in a holding situation on account. This annoys me. Then at checkin I was told I would get it straight back at checkout. This wasn't true either. I had to wait till the room had been cleaned.I was amazed that front of house staff can wear back jeans and black trainer's and actually sat down at the table next to me to read a newspaper. The radiator was permanently on wich made the room uncomfortable. I called reception whi said they would send someone to the room but that person never came. The bar was closed on a Friday night
