The staff were very pleasant...

Liked: I enjoyed the country feeling and being away from the city hustle and bustle.
Disliked: The room we were in was dated and the mattress was not comfortable at all.

A shining example of how...

Liked: The building is an attractive, historic gem.
Disliked: This hotel has issues. While many guests have left reviews giving reasonable comments about things that concerned them, their comments have been universally ignored by the managers. The hotel is poorly presented and the management issues begin there. The hygiene standards are poor, the breakfast was as cheap as could be imagined, the room was uncomfortable and bed even worse with clearly very old linen and mattress, and the plumbing needs renovating regardless of the age of the building. Like other guests, we chose to leave early rather than ruin our holiday further. We paid for five days and left after three. Leaving was a relief.

A quiet & peaceful place...

Liked: The staff were excellent…. Very friendly & efficient
Disliked: The staircase up to the 2nd floor …. it should have been made clear that these rooms were for physically fit people, the stairs were incredibly steep & certainly not easy to navigateThe house is very interesting & could be a really comfortable, relaxing place to be but it’s very tired !!The breakfast was fair…the buffet could have a better choice & porridge on the menu would have been very welcome..there was plenty of the cooked breakfast … the eggs were good but the bacon was dry & disappointing The bedding / towels were clean but the mattresses were very uncomfortable The electric cables in the room were very worrying… there were a number of extensions for bedside lamps, tv,heater & fan

Would stay again but in...

Liked: Free car parking. Grounds lovely. Honesty box for farm shop goods. Free Wi-Fi worked ok. Manager who met us on check-in was lovely and friendly. Breakfast choice was fairly good and good quality produce. Bed was comfy. I was informed by management that this was managed as a charitable trust and all profits were ploughed back into restoring the house to its former grandeur, which is admirable. Fair price for a stay
Disliked: Bedroom was small and warm despite no heating being turned on. (Unfortunately unknowing I had booked the smallest double room), I will not make this mistake next time. Cleanliness in bedroom not great as there was lots of big spiders and cobwebs on ceiling. There was nowhere to put wet bath towels to allow them to dry out. Small TV was on the dressing table so nowhere to sit and make up or dry hair while sitting down. Very little space to put 2 suitcases or bags. [none of these issues were reported to management as we arrived in the evening after a tiring journey]
