A very elegant hotel at...

Liked: The hotel and grounds were very picturesque. As you find in older buildings, our classic double room was a little more compact, up a circular staircase and down a winding hallway. We had both dinner and breakfast and the food was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, a good stay.
Disliked: Carrying our luggage up the circular staircase was a little difficult.

Liked: Good location, friendly staff, very comfortable bed and great breakfast.
Disliked: Curtains in room ripped and carpets generally in hotel threadbare in places. Window frames in room grubby/mouldy. Shower cubicle mouldy at bottom, shower head split and very dirty, needs replaced.

Liked: Lovely location
Disliked: First room was noisy, right above the kitchen. Shower head broken. Staff moved us to another room. Shower flooded, no tv control no loo roll, no hairdryer sadly had to go find someone at midnight to sort shower. Poor breakfast raw poached egg & dirty cup bright pink lipstick on it. Table linen was also dirty. Food in restaurant was excellent. Hotel needs a lot of updating lots of scuffed areas. Housekeeping need to clean better. More attention in bathrooms lots of dirt and hair in bath and shower. Tad overpriced

Flashes of excellence but let...

Liked: We liked the large sized room and view of the hills. We liked the big wardrobe, quality dressing gowns and bathroom products (penhaligan). We liked the ability to park the car close to the building.
Disliked: The hotel decor is dated (paintwork and carpets). Single glazed windows are drafty, especially in dining room. Floorboards creak in the corridors, so you hear everyone moving around. The walled garden was closed (overgrown). After 4pm, there seemed very few staff around (receptionist seems to cover everything). Evening dinner menu was a bit limited and tight timing window (6pm - 7.30pm). Our room wasn't cleaned on one of the 3 days despite placing the appropriate signage on our door handle.

lovely setting.

Liked: The location, especially the setting, this is a beautiful hotel. The food was delicious cooked with quality ingredients. Our room, room 2, was immaculate, this is a large room, with a very spacious bathroom. The staff were very friendly.
Disliked: lack of staff, I rang reception twice but no answer, there appeared to be only two staff working who at the time of my call were helping in the restaurant. The bed was two queens attached, one side was very comfy but the stuffing was lacking on the offer side. there was no hairdryer in the bedroom. I had to go and search for a member of staff to find one.

A very enjoyable short break.

Liked: Breakfast was excellent and varied and the service was excellent. The location in its own private estate and woods and gardens provide a wonderful opportunity to walk and explore and enjoy the wonderful weather we experienced during our stay.We were able to sit out in the late afternoon and evening and enjoy a drink.
Disliked: We were staying for three nights. We felt that the dinner menu was somewhat restrictive. The menu was the same on each evening with limited choice. On one evening we selected the fish and chips option and were surprised to find that the haddock used was a 'lightly smoked' variety of haddock. We had never had smoked haddock deep fried in this manner.
