Overall a lovely place to stay, very cosy, comfortable and relaxing....

Liked: A real castle! Very comfortable and cosy and the staff and my room were lovely!
Disliked: I wish that the restaurant had been opened at all times and that the bar had more variety in respect of special diets. For non-drivers it was a very long walk to the road, to the bus stop - a little lift option would have been lovely as I hurt my ankles with walking backwards and forward up that slope!

We had a good time...

Liked: Good value, comfy bed great breakfast.
Disliked: The castle is very cold and a little tired we had our coats on most of the time. Our room was dark and we got woken by loud banging at 4am (resident ghost Lilly we believe) very unsettling!

Fair stay for a fair...

Liked: We were in a dog friendly, courtyard room. Ideal as super easy and quick to get outside and walk the dog. It was a very fair size of room too.Apart from the Library bar there were a number of areas within the hotel that were like guest lounges, ideal for us who were away with family and this meant we had a place to meet up and play board games with our nephew and niece. We stayed 2 nights, the first of which was on a very busy Saturday night with a singer in the bar and a murder mystery dinner/disco n one of the function rooms. Being in the courtyard we dreaded the end of the disco, thinking we'd be woken up as everyone exited the hotel and walked through the courtyard. To be fair - no noise at all!
Disliked: Don't look too closely into corners or onto carpets - cobwebs, dust, stains and scuffs. It's all a little shabby around the edges, within the shell of a castle. Only one half of the library bar is dog friendly, nowhere else in the hotel. On a busy Saturday night this means your chances of getting a table to sit and have a drink with your dog are almost nil.If you have mobility issues or can't manage steps or stairs then phone ahead! It's a very old building and there are many split levels.

Not the first stay here,...

Liked: It’s an old building with the history and charm thus associated, but maybe the room showers could have some modern plumbing.
Disliked: Plumbing.

Expensive

Liked: Beautiful surroundings Lovely staff at breakfast only
Disliked: It was very overpriced for what we had as it was Valentine’s Day we expected something special for the nightly price the meal wasn’t great and very expensive too so was the alcohol we could have had a holiday abroad in Cyprus for what we paid for one night would definitely not be booking again very disappointed

Peaceful and relaxing.

Liked: We went down to the lounge for a few drinks in the night and the service was amazing, the staff were extremely friendly and patient and they met all expectations I had. The lounge itself was peaceful and such a calming atmosphere.
Disliked: There was nothing that I didn't like.

Superb

Liked: Like the atmosphere and location
Disliked: Childrens menu is not so great or child friendly, we ordered the, soup which was far too was spicy for a child. The chicken gougons were great but 4 year old didnt like them so again he would eat, he loves chicken too. Food for kids served on roasting hot plates which I asked to change to cold plate. I know there won't be lots of children there but just some feedback.
