Liked the location and atmosphere - could have used some more personalized service.
Liked: Lives up to the Artistes name - much more enjoyable than a chain hotel.
Disliked: No maid service - we stayed 2 nights and were surprised that the room wasn't cleaned, bed made or given fresh towels after the first night.

Very good
Liked: The location is right on Route 1 just south of Del Mar, you can walk into town for breakfast, down to Powerhouse beach, etc. Much better than staying back by the freeway. Also there is free parking right in front of the hotel.
Disliked: It said the room has a fireplace, but it doesn't - its n the outdoor foyer when you enter, but no fire was going at 7 pm when I arrived. That would be a nice touch. They have a small outdoor bar upstairs which would be nice for wine and breakfast but it's closed. The small coffeepot at the front window just doesn't do it. Nice vibe of the property but they could take more advantage of the amenities that they have.

Older eclectic hotel, well suited...
Liked: The atmosphere and ambience. I loved the ocean view, the french doors that opened onto the small balcony and the small dining area. The room heater was old, but really worked well. The robes were a nice touch. The staff was very friendly and kind. They did not have an ice machine, but the manager brought me a bag of ice from her personal refrigerator. The local restaurants were good but on the expensive side. There were a lot of choices. The inn was very peaceful while I was there.
Disliked: The electrical switches were crazy! It took me some time to locate the proper switch for each light. The small fireplaces advertised are no longer functional, but the wall heater was very good. The air conditioner was pretty old but fortunately I only needed it for a few hours when I arrived. There was no place to purchase water or snacks, and I had a hard time finding a market in town. I finally found a small convenience store in an alcoholic beverage store within walking distance. However, knowing what to expect, I would readily choose to stay at this establishment again.

Art-themed inn, modestly priced
Liked: The Inn is dog-friendly and modestly priced, hard to find these days. There’s plenty of parking. It’s located in a quiet community that feels safe. It was very quiet at night. Our room opened to a small balcony with a table and chairs where we could sit in the sun. Very nice. We could hear the sound of a fountain. Our room had a fridge and microwave. Rooms on the ground floor have quick access to parking. It has a small but powerful heater (but it’s noisy).
Disliked: The overall property feels a bit rundown. It could use a bit of fixing up. There was no maid service which was OK for our two-night stay but would not work for a longer stay. The bathroom had one pump bottle of soap at the sink and one pump bottle of shampoo in the shower. Bring what you like!

A beautiful hotel with such...
Liked: The absolute best hotel! I had such a wonderful stay. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. I’m obsessed with the rooms and can’t wait to come back!
Disliked: Literally nothing. I was perfect.

Exceptional
Liked: The Innkeeper was beyond hospitable. She walked me to my room and showed me how to use the amenities. The room we stayed in has a private hot tub and sitting area. It was very clean and comfortable. We loved the eclectic look and feel of the room and the inn. It's a bit pricey, but it's Del Mar, so it's what's to be expected. I would love to come back sometime.
