Very Good - 4.0 out of 5

Jennifer, Washington DC Mon, 23 June 2014

Very pleasant stay. Loved the individual private balconies. Loved the hydro spa. Loved the tapenade and the toast points - excellent. Wish I had known about the Ralphs around the corner sooner and the stores and other facilities that were just up the road, especially the local massueses - they should list themselves at the front desk. I would definitely stay there again even without a car now I know the bus routes. I did leave a flower arrangement I had made from sunflowers bought at Ralphs and a few bougainvillea and green leaves I had picked from your own gardens. Much more appropriate and bright and cheerful than irises which do not last very long. And I think greenery, maybe a plant, with one bougainvillea blossom, would be better on the tables than inexpensive 'mums' etc.

Liked: Front desk people were very helpful, especially Obi who came up with maps etc. Helped me with my Ipad and Iphone at length!
Disliked: I found the restaurant very dark.

A good place to stay...

Liked: This is our 7th or 8th stay here and, as always, the grounds are the star of the show - beautiful and relaxing after some stressful days. The bed is comfortable, the bathroom is clean. The staff allowed us to store a considerable amount of luggage in the office after we checked out as we had several hours before our flight home and didn't want to haul it around with us all day.
Disliked: Again, as always, the room had a few "rough edges" - the floors appeared to be clean, but walking in bare feet we found that they were not - feet were black with grime! We asked the fellow at the front desk, Conrad, if they would mop, and they sent a housekeeper who did clean the floor, but they remained grimy. Our son, who was sharing the room, found large stains on the sheets on his bed - they had evidently been laundered, but housekeeping had to be blind not to see these. NOT acceptable! We usually enjoy the restaurant and bar, and did this time, but some of the staff acted put out by just being at work. The phone recording for the restaurant says it opens at 7, yet they don't open until 8. When I went in to get coffee at 7:10 or so, the fellow very rudely informed me that "well, we don't open until 8, you'll just have to wait". Lastly, while we were at the bar and watching the last holes of the Masters Tournament, one of the patrons, apparently a regular, let out a loud and excited "Oh my god!" in response to some drama at the Masters. A fellow who was apparently the owner of the Lemon Tree, furiously yelled at her to "keep it down! I have several European clients who are trying to sleep off their jet lag!" This devolved into a yelling match with the woman's husband - so disappointing to see such behavior. It just begs to be asked: how could the owner reasonably expect any patron to know that there are "several European clients who are trying to sleep off their jet lag", and what reasonable world traveler would expect it to be quiet in the mid-afternoon, especially in a hotel with a bar in the courtyard?! We really do love this place, and really want to keep it as our Santa Barbara "home away from home" - but we have concerns that may prevent us from staying here. Conrad, who is a member of the family who owns the hotel, seemed very open to our suggestions.

Nice place in a good...

Liked: Great location in Santa Barbara with a beautiful outdoor pool area. Lots of parking available.
Disliked: Morning noise from the cleaning carts was loud and annoying every day, patched but unpainted bathroom walls, and noise from the room above us. Although there seemed to be many empty rooms, someone was placed in the room right above ours instead of spreading the guests out. These folks were noisy late at night.

The Lemon Tree Inn is...

Liked: The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The balcony overlooking the pool and gardens was especially nice. The hotel bar and restaurant were terrific! And the grounds were immaculate! I alos loved the location--walking distance to a fantastic local coffeeshop, Handlebar. I will definitely stay at the Lemon Tree Inn again.

Excellent value, great staff, decent...

Liked: Excellent value with very large rooms and comfortable beds.
Disliked: Too much noise from other rooms while sitting on the patio area. Very loud, obnoxious music and television programs. Walter tried to relax in the courtyard area.
