Beautiful property, disappointing stay…

Liked: Beautiful, large and comfortable rooms and truly delicious breakfasts. Parking is free and convenient. But this was operating as a B and B, not as the relaxed country house hotel we expected from the photos and description. Some staff members were doing their best to meet customer needs despite the constraints and demands of back to back catering for huge groups of partygoers. But mostly they just ignored us in their haste to set up for the next event.
Disliked: The cosy bar advertised did not exist and in fact, although this is a gorgeous country house hotel, there was absolutely nowhere for guests to relax except for their room - and we were not alone in finding this unacceptable. Every single space was given over to catering for large groups of local partygoers and adding extra covers, including the area designated as a bar. We could not even access reception one evening as the entertainment for the event had been set up right in the way! One member of staff tried to find us a space in which to relax but failed and had to admit that the focus was on the banqueting and not on private guests. Although this could be forgiven to some extent owing to the festive season I suspect that the rest of the year weddings also take precedence. We were so disappointed as I’d especially wanted to stay there as it always looks so lovely when we pass. It’s the most expensive option in the area but under those circumstances just not worth the extra.

Liked: Brilliant hotel, top quality, spacious room which was super quiet and clean. Nice attention to detail.Had an evening meal in the restaurant which was one of the best meals I've had for a long time, (Half duck with dumplings and red cabbage). Food arrived surprisingly quickly.The waiter was chatty and fun to talk to, and the relaxed atmosphere was great with the accordion player in the background. I think the restaurant is very popular with the locals as it was quite busy. Loads of parking spaces available.
Disliked: Single duvet on a double bed.

Liked: The restaurant was excellent and the food was first rate. The beds were comfortable and it is worth asking for the new part of the hotel.Breakfast was good too,!
Disliked: Air conditioning would have made it even better

Disliked: As a single traveler In the restaurant I was put in a corner near the exit door which opened every five minutes. The staff in the restaurant was really friendly

Liked: Good breakfast. Fantastic kitchen and dinner. Clean rooms, lovely staff, pet friendly!
Disliked: Main entry door was locked, side-door had to be used...was a bit annoying, but small annoyance
