Aside for the location there...
Liked: Location
Disliked: I stayed there 27 years ago. The rooms have not changed in anything. No fridge, no coffee machine, a clunky ac and the bathroom was probably built in 1950. The window faces the outside corridor and people can look inside the room. The drapes do not cover the window completely.

Loved the beach, but not...
Liked: I like La Jolla Beach and decided to stay at La Jollla Coves Suites. The staff was informed that the faucets in the bathroom shower did not work and ended up taking a a sponge bath. The floor in the main bedroom that connects to the main bedroom is uneven and made it feel like anyone going into the bathroom and going out of the bathroom could trip of fall. There was no sign posted to let guests know to be careful going into and out of the bathroom. When trying to use the room phone to contact the front desk, after four calls and you could hear the front desk employee speaking, you could no longer hear the employee’s voice and all the calls were disconnected. Front desk didn’t call the room, to check if we needed any help We explained to hotel staff of the problems we had with room and he would notify the manager. I told, the employee for price we were xharged for the hotel rate wasn’t comparable to website stating it is one of the best hotel in La Jolla. everything needs to working properly to pay rate we were charged. I understand the hotel decor that is being done with a retro modern way and also seen where the corners of the remodel that were cut to save on funds. Balcony had dry rot on the wood railing & also seen the room next door was in much repair on the balcony which had a lot dry rot needed to be repaired. I wanted to have a better experience and stayed for one night. I’ve yet to hear from the hotel manager and it’s unfortunate this is the only to get a response from the manager. Hoping for a response back and to be compensated for the inconvenience for staying at a hotel has safety issues and has ongoing renovation.
Disliked: See above response of liking the beachSee a vice about not liking the experience at La Jolla Cove Suites.

Shady fraudulent advertising practices
Liked: The location. Also, the room I was eventually moved to was nice, but the bait and switch they played right my hotel reservation (showing pictures of the new building but actually sticking me in the old smelly one) put a sour taste in my mouth and I don’t plan on ever going back because of this. Which is a shame because I stay in the area all the time.
Disliked: The room I booked looked nice, but when I got there I was put in a room that looked nothing like the one I booked. It smelled, had mold in the bathroom, and the table and even parts of the floor were all sticky and gross. It was absolutely disgusting. I talked to the front desk and they said they advertise with pictures the nicer/newer side but that is not the one you get booked in with the 3rd party reservation. This is fraudulent! You can’t put pictures of a room and then put someone in a totally different building and room! I was able to upgrade but they charged me an additional $100. I should not have to pay more money to be put in one of the rooms that I had booked and already paid for according to the pictures on the website.

I'll never go to that...
Liked: Whole place is in disrepair. A few remodeled rooms, but you have to ask for it. Staff was uninformed & argumentive
Disliked: Everything! Staff, location, disrepair, staff complained that I booked on Booking.com

No bang for decent buck
Liked: The location is just fantastic. It's walking distance of some of the most popular beaches and tourist attractions in La Jolla. There's also a healthy shopping, restaurant, and bar scene within walking distance of the hotel. The room was pretty nice, although nothing special. We got a room in the renovated wing of the building, but when we were checking in we did hear someone who was in the other wing that they need to switch rooms. The bed was decent, with good pillows. The Parakeet cafe does not have any food to eat, only small pre-packaged snacks. For any food, you'll need to venture off the property. It does have good morning.
Disliked: I requested a late checkout. Despite that, the staff walked in to my room 20 minutes before the original checkout time (11AM), while I was in the shower. I think they need to work on communication with each other. The blackout curtains are more like dimming curtains, especially with a bright light right outside. Hard to sleep when it seems like daylight outside. The window from my room faced a wall -- so no view. The room still had someone else's trash in the trash can when we walked in.

Disappointed. I took my boyfriend...
Liked: The bed was comfortable. I liked how close it is to the Sea Lions/Seals and walking distance to shops/restaurants.
Disliked: When we checked in on 10/25 the shower drain smelled like sewage. Went to front desk and was told no more rooms were available and maintenance wasn't available. Had to wait until saturday. Imagine stepping to the shower where you to get clean and it SMELLS! I think for what I was paying for a room per night more could have been done to accommodate. I paid a total of $1200 for Fri and sat night. On Saturday late afternoon housekeeping walked right into our room, no knocking no announcing herself. We even had the Do not disturb sign on doorknob. She wanted to see if she left her keys in our room. I was LIVID. who does that???? We didn't get our sheets changed, not sure if that is an everyday thing or not, didn't get any handsoap left after she cleaned our bathroom. She took the one we used a few times and didn't replace it. Also, there were clumps of hair on our patio w hen we checked in. The hotel in itself was a horrible experience and deserve a huge financial credit returned to me.

Good location, but the rest...
Liked: The location
Disliked: On our first night (Sunday), there was a wedding on the roof top. As we were staying on the 6th floor (the same as the roof top), it was incredibly noisy. Staff ensured us that the wedding would conclude by 10pm, but guests were still on the rooftop and walking / running down the corridor at 11:30pm. Staff did nothing to ensure that wedding guests had left. Otherwise, the lift is very slow and was out of service on our last night / the morning we left, so we had to carry our suitcases down 6 flights of stairs. If you have mobility issues, this would be a problem for you. Finally, it is worth paying the extra money for one of the newer rooms (in the Pines), as the older rooms are truly disgusting.

If you are not picky...
Liked: The staff was great and the place had a fun aesthetic. It had a 1950s-motel vibe. Also, the location was great: right across from the beach and easy walking (for me) to most places in La Jolla. (You do need to go up a hill, so if you have mobility issues, you might need a car.)
Disliked: The door to my room needed a shove/pull to close all the way (not the end of the world, but something I needed to be conscious of). Also, there was a leak in my room, which the staff was very helpful about, and got fixed and cleaned up while I was out.
