One of my worst hotels...

Liked: The location
Disliked: The room was on the third floor, with no elevator. I was not warned about this and because I got there at 4:45 PM, I could not get ahold of anyone to change rooms to a lower level. I understand there not being a need for air-conditioning, but I could not open a window either. I live in a resort town (Truckee, CA) so I understand limited services in the slow season, but there were zero commercial services open during my 18 hours stay at Kirkwood. They should have let me know, so I could have planned accordingly.

Not a good "off season...

Liked: Beautiful location.
Disliked: No air conditioning so room was 81⁰ plus every night. Hallways were way hotter. We were on the 3rd floor, the elevator didn't always work and we ended up having to carry all our luggage down 4 flights of stairs. Staff leaves at 4:30 during this season so no one is available if you need anything. No vending machines, and in the off season you're 30 minutes away from food or drinks after 4 pm when the general store closes. Bathroom door was nearly impossible to close. Toilet paper roll holder broke within 5 minutes of checking in. Spa/hot tub was non functional.

Not recommended in the summer,...

Liked: Location is good. The staff was helpful. It was great that they had an extra emergency room ready to use because my room wasn't done (not cleaned, no sheets, no towel) when I went in after hours
Disliked: A little annoying that my room wasn't done (not cleaned, no sheets, no towel) when I went in after hours, luckily they had an emergency room ready for this kind of situation, so not a huge deal. The real problem was the heat. I knew they didn't have AC, but even with fully opened windows, the room stayed over 80 degrees until past 4 am when a little breeze started cooling things down. Didn't sleep well as a result. Probably ok in the winter, but I wouldn't go there again in the summer. The whole place feels a little old and run down.

Good

Liked: Beautiful in the summer, and no crowds in the off-season.
Disliked: If you go in the summer, don't expect any services or food on Tuesdays. Everything was closed.
