Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel, Kilkenny

Good

Location great; Not great-swapping plugs...

Liked: Location was excellent and the bar/restaurant handy within the hotel. The room assigned to us, was good enough view looking at Left Bank opposite us. Plenty of places to get coffee, walkabout, Kilkenny Castle on sight. Great original features (contemporary en suite). We listened to live music 2 nights in a row in the bar area which was a nice way to end the evenings. Shower was excellent and the bed was comfy. Everything was great, but attention to the requirements in the room was a bit of let down (see below). Staff were great and did go out of their way to help us with requests. Note though, wife would stay here again despite the lack of xyz.
Disliked: Not enough sockets to access, and too far away to a small table to work on our laptops. The small table was enough for cups of teas, snacks but not enough space for one laptop to work on. We both had our laptops with us which was a waste of baggage. In addition, the Internet proxy was an issue so we could not get any signal working the 3 days. The TV was constantly "no signal", "no data". We had a staff adjusting the cable first night but this effectively stopped showing any channels after he left. We gave up watching. So no TV, no laptop to watch on either, and no space to put one laptop on a table. The room (ceiling) was spacious, they could have had a desk for two and double sockets. We had to swap a plug between a coffee machine, a kettle, and a lampstand as there was only one socket underneath. We did borrow an extension lead 2nd night but it was only two sockets so we still had just one available. Luckily I brought our double socket plug (digital hearing aids now needs charging too!) but alot of swapping around so the room stayed dark when we used all the sockets for our charging, until one of the device was fully charged before we switched to the lampstand by the beside. The en suite lacked a shelf to put one washbag, never mind two. Plenty of opportunities to install one in there. Finally, the hotel is not accessible for low mobility or wheelchair users. Food - one of us liked the food, the other one did not but they did accommodate alternative option. The breakfast was great - however, there were certain food items not provided but only n the "room service" which was unfortunate as my wife was looking forward to the hash browns, grapefruit juice. Breakfast should be the same for both services. Sidenote: orange juice should be fresh as expected in a 4-star hotel.

Liked: Second time to stay at Hibernian Hotel and both stays were very pleasant. The staff are really friendly, location is brilliant, will be back again.

Good location

Liked: Main gripe is that we had to leave early on second morning before 7.30 am so despite having paid for breakfast we could not benefit as breakfast bar not open till 7.30 am which is unusually late for a hotel.If we had known that would not have booked and paid for breakfast on second morning if our stay.
