Nice budget hotel across from...
Liked: Nice budget hotel across the street from train station. Cordial staff. Good breakfast with boiled eggs, cold cuts.
Disliked: Bathroom poorly arranged with toilet too close to sink, small shower splashed all over the floor.

Superb
Liked: Good location close to the train central. They start serving breakfast early if you need to catch a morning train. And they have freshly squeezed orange juice!

Enjoyed some aspects of Marseille,...
Liked: Location was good, close to train station, easy to get to Harbour and the old town. Breakfast was fine.
Disliked: There was mould in the shower, particularly around the bottom edges, needs a good mould remover. Bathroom was tiny, but just ok for one person, as was the room size.In general I found Marseille dirty with graffiti everywhere, a city wide cleanup needs to be done, there are obviously a lot of social issues in Marseille and residents don’t appear to value their heritage or have pride in where they live. I went to some places on the tourist map and felt extremely unsafe, plus description on the brochure was inaccurate

Disliked: A safety box in the room would be very useful

Beware of lots of cigarette...
Liked: Convenient location close to train station, walking distance to attraction. Rooms functional in the typical IBIS style, good breakfast with options to sit in a small courtyard. Staff upon arrival were courteous and helpful and arranged early check-in at no additional costs.
Disliked: My room went to a tiny inner courtyard. There were signs that the courtyard would be closed after 23:00 so people could sleep. So I opened my window; I strongly dislike sleeping with a closed window and airco. At 00:45 I woke up from a penetrating smell of cigarette smoke. Somebody was sitting directly under my window in the courtyard and smoked. I called out of my window for him to stop. He would not and insisted on his right to smoke there. I called the reception. The staff member on duty told me that “I makes the rules and I let everybody smoke whenever they want”. That’s insane. So all rooms that go out to this tiny courtyard have to keep their windows closed so that people can smoke when they want?!?
