Worst hotel experience ever
Disliked: I travel to Raleigh frequently and decided to try a new hotel. Booked with Hyatt House a couple of weeks prior to my intended stay on 12/12. I was driving from my home in WNC to Washington DC to pick up my daughter from exams and then on down to Raleigh to spend the night. Because I knew her exam did not end until 5:30, I messaged the hotel several days before the trip to let them know we would not arrive until after 11PM. Traffic was heavy leaving DC so my husband called the hotel at 8:30 and spoke to front desk staff and told them we would not arrive until closer to midnight. They seemed fine with that and gave no indication there was an issue. We arrived at hotel at 11:50 PM after being in the car over 13 hours at that point, quite exhausted. No one was at the front desk and I waited over 5 minutes before someone finally came from the back. I told the lady who I was and she asked if I did not get the message. I had no idea what she was talking about but she said they had called to tell me they overbooked and that I would be “walked” to another hotel. While she went to get a letter she said I needed, I checked my phone and at 9:15 (less than 45 mins after telling my husband there was no problem with our late arrival) someone had called and left a message saying there was an issue and to call them back. I left the hotel and drove to the new location only to discover they had no clue I was coming and did not have a reservation for me. The front desk attendant at that hotel (The Renaissance at North Hills, which I HIGHLY recommend) was beyond apologetic and much nicer than the person at the Hyatt House despite it not being their fault at all) had to call the Hyatt House and sit on the phone for 15 minutes with them trying to get the walk sheet rate corrected so I could get a room. Fortunately this hotel had availability (which could have not been the case since it was clear no one from Hyatt House had called to confirm one before sending me there).
