Howard Johnson Hotel by Wyndham Newark Airport, Newark

I am very upset - I came to Newark to See Iron Maiden at the Prudential Center whom played there Monday July 2nd. I only wanted to stay at the Howard Johnson Hotel on Monday night - when I arrived at the hotel on Monday at approximately 4PM, and they informed me that my reservation was for Sunday night and they held my room. So basically I had to pay for Sunday night when I had no intention of ever being in Newark on Sunday - I was seeing Maiden on Monday and just wanted to stay Monday night. So since I needed a hotel I had to pay for two nights even though I only stayed Monday night. That is completely unfair - they could have called me on Sunday when I did not arrive as I left my cell number with the reservation. In addition they charged me 20 dollars to park my car in the parking lot - I have never seen any hotel charge for parking ever. I picked the Howard Johnson hotel as I just wanted a low price place to stay for one night. I wound up having to pay for two nights at a hotel, parking in the hotel and then the cabs charged me 25 dollars each way to go less than 4 miles to the Prudential Center. I could have stayed in an amazing hotel right at the Prudential Center and I would have saved a lot of money.

Disliked: Hotel charged extra for parking.

The staff were very friendly and we did not have any problem checking in early. The food was good. We went into NYC and also went to the Prudential center to see the NJ Nets. Transportation was easy. We would stay there again.

Liked: Clean and inexpensive
Disliked: No bar and had to pay for parking.

My stay at that place...

Liked: There is a menu in the room stating that the kitchen opens at 7 am but when I called at seven nobody answered the phone so I called the front desk I was told that they would be open between 8&9 am which is weird because checkout time is 10 o'clock.I couldn't eat breakfast there because I had to be at a funeral at 9 so I ended up eating at McDonald's.If they can't open the kitchen on time don't have a menu with incorrect time.
Disliked: What I didn't like is the location.the streets leading to the hotel is in deplorable condition also as soon as I got to the parking lot all I smelt was the strong odor of weed I automatically regretted booking this room it gets even worse,as soon as I opened my room door the smell of dampness and stale musky oder slapped me in the face.I had to get a can of disinfectant and spray the room just to be able to stay in it.looks like they don't disinfectant there rooms.the hotel is bad even down to the 1970s carpet in the hallway.

Liked: The restaurant had good deals. Some of the front desk tried being helpful. But failed.
Disliked: No info on how difficult how it is to reach. No shuttles, no buses come down that way. The best way to get anywhere was Uber to bustop, bz it is on the other side of 2 highways. From that bustop to N.Y or possibly uber to Newark Pennstation.The room had not been cleaned for weeks. It had dust a thick layer on lights, on bed frames, on painting frames, behind the beds and bedside table the carpet was filthy. And there were roaches.
