A wonderful stay vs. disappointing...
Liked: A wonderful stay! The spacious, light-filled room offered plenty of space to relax, not only with a private sauna but also a cozy living room with a breathtaking view of the harbor and the city. The lighting was pleasant and customizable, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The location is perfect—right across from the ferry terminal and within walking distance of numerous cafes, restaurants (with a wide range of quality and prices), and a supermarket. For those who enjoy running, there’s a great jogging route over Schlossberg up to the university. The varied and healthy breakfast buffet was the perfect start to each day.The service was excellent—staff were always available to assist, even though the reception isn’t staffed 24/7, and the housekeeping team was very kind (we needed extra towels for the sauna). They also gave us great local tips and helped with our taxi arrangements, which was especially helpful since we don’t speak Swedish. 🇸🇪 Tack till hela hotellteamet för den fantastiska servicen och den varma omtanken!
Disliked: We first stayed at this hotel in 2014, and it left us with such wonderful memories. It was the little, thoughtful details that made this place special: beautiful decor, candlelight, fresh flowers, cozy pillows, umbrellas at the entrance, an espresso machine, and countless other helpful touches that made our stay so enjoyable. But this time, we were disheartened to find that most of this charm is either completely gone or in a sad state of disrepair.From the moment we arrived, the change was evident. The atmosphere that used to make this place feel so unique has disappeared. Unfortunately, this continued in our room as well—no amenities provided, not even for the sauna, which was disappointing. Even the faucet in the bathroom sink was loose, a small detail but one that reflects the current condition of the entire property.It leaves us wondering: what happened here in the meantime that turned this once well-loved hotel into such a neglected state? Of course, the challenges of the pandemic can explain some things, but not the decline we saw. We were really looking forward to returning, but sadly, it wasn’t the experience we remembered.
