Good value, okay experience, deceptive for 4 stars
Liked: Hotel Paolo is a good option if you don't mind staying away from the city center and/or have business in the outskirts of Napoli (such as attending a Napoli match). The price was good for the amount of nights we spent there, and it was close to the venue of the event we were attending. You can find multiple utilities close by, such as restaurants, transportation, even a hospital (you never know!), but the hotel only really suffers from the main road in terms of noise. If that road is quiet, your room should be quiet as well. The breakfast was nothing to write home about, but it was still good, and I doubt anyone will struggle to find at least one or two things to eat in the morning. The room was comfortable, but not amazing (more on that later). The shower was good, although small. The hotel also has a partnership with a restaurant down the street, and I would say the food there was quite good. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you are planning on coming to Napoli on a budget and/or expect to spend a small amount of time in your room. It does its job, but it's not particularly remarkable.
Disliked: The room can have some issues for those that are more sensitive in their sleep. If noise is an issue for you, the air-conditioner and the minibar can be a source of nuisance, but you can turn those off if you need. However, if you turn on the bathroom light, you also turn on an extremely noisy extractor fan, which can prove troublesome if you are travelling with someone, and they need to use the bathroom during the night. Light-wise, the room also has multiple lights that can be an issue for you, and the blinds are also need upkeep, so there's a chance your room brightens up when the sun comes up. The room size is okay, but the bathroom is quite cramped. Location-wize you are also a bit far from the city center, including a 30-minute drive from the airport. Finally, the hotel uses a key-system, and the key is left at the main desk every time you leave. Again, if you are travelling with someone, it can be bothersome to not have your own key to the room with you, seeing as sometimes I would get to the room only to find my friend in the bathroom and asking me to wait to get in. As such, I would say there are definitely some things Hotel Paolo can improve on, and the four-star rating is, in my opinion, an exaggeration.
