A lovely weekend away with...

Liked: The position is great. The rooms are pleasant and comfortable.
Disliked: We were put in rooms above the function room which had a wedding on our second night. It was noisy. The staff were very good at moving us but we had to ask.

Liked: Great location for that part of Canberra. Walk to Manuka and Kingston foreshore.Beautiful heritage building

Exceptional

Liked: excellent service from check in to check out. complementary late check out offered. the rooms and bathrooms were clean and very well stocked with amenities. housekeeping was on point too. lovely hotel and amazing staff.
Disliked: can't recall anything that came across unlikeable.

Lovely comfortable hotel but needs...

Liked: It was a very beautiful hotel with large very comfortable and glamorous rooms. The garden was a nice extra touch and the happy hour was great! We discovered completely on our own that it was in an excellent location walking distance to many major buildings like the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the sculpture gallery and a gorgeous rose garden along with other interesting buildings.
Disliked: Clearly this hotel makes its profit from hosting working people on conventions, there was a new one every day. We arrived on a Sunday, midday. We were told the dining room was closed but would provide a coffee if needed. They reopened after 5 and we discovered charged an extra 10% because it was Sunday! Unfortunately there were no other nearby options either. The male clerk on duty didn't seem to know anything at all so had to ask the back room staff who told us of an area where we could find something to eat. The directions were sketchy telling us to just keep left....finally we ran into a passerby who steered us back in the right direction. We had to walk at least 20 minutes in blazing heat and we are in our seventies. The front staff knew nothing of the price of a bus ticket or what bus would pass. The man actually told us there would be very few buses and we would wait a very long time because it was Sunday....well we counted at least 10 buses going by. Eventually we figured everything out ourselves and if we needed information we learned it was easier to come by if we asked strangers on the street. Our room was not cleaned the first day. We advised them at around 5 so they sent someone up who did the sloppiest job I have ever seen making a bed, no surfaces were cleaned. We complained the following day and were assured our message would be passed on...we got in around 5 and the room had not been done again. I complained again pointing out this was the second time in a row and they compensated us by giving us a lovely breakfast. However even when the room was cleaned and I believe a supervisor was there, the surfaces were still not wiped! This hotel does not cater to tourists but only to businesses on conferences.
