Exceptional
Liked: Didn’t have breakfast. Overpriced. It used to be cheap. This was the only disappointing aspect of my stay.

Great location, clean and comfy.
Liked: This hotel is located right across the street from the very beautiful botanic gardens and is a short walk (max 10 minutes) to the downtown and market area. The hotel was clean and had a great bed, small fridge and tea and coffee making available in the room. Another review mentioned that the #8 bus stops about a block and a half away to take you to the airport for just $4 (the bus is cash only). We were given a $60 quote by a taxi so taking the bus was an easy choice. We would stay at Hotel Give again.

Liked: Location is good, close to Riverside Market. Parking area convenient.
Disliked: It seems like a hostel, rowdy students when we were there, had to phone reception to get them to quiet down so we can sleep after a long day of travelling.

Great location for Hagley Park...
Liked: Fantastic location, perfect for events at Hagley Park and right opposite the stunning Botanical Gardens. Comfy beds, nice toiletries provided. Well sound-proofed we felt. Really like that it’s part of the YMCA and is therefore a non-profit.Pop-up café outside looked very sweet and was selling ice creams too, which looked delicious and very tempting in the heat! (we didn’t get the chance to stop at the cafe but it always looked busy and thriving)
Disliked: We stayed in two different rooms, once at the start of the week and then again at the end of the week. The first room’s air con didn’t work (we weren’t actually sure it had air con as we couldn’t see a unit, but there was a dial on the wall indicating there was air con). It was very hot and we didn’t sleep well. Some internal cleaning work had been done on the balcony area outside this room just before we checked in, and the carpet inside the room was wet as a result. One small-ish lift for such a big building is also problematic- was a nightmare during busy check-in and check-out periods. Not much that can be done about that though I imagine.
