I have stayed in many Hotel du Vins over the years and slowly the food and service is going downhill at a couple of the venues. Breakfast both here and in the Exeter hotel was lukewarm with scrambled eggs cold and inedible. Buffet selection average and service average. Such a shame as it used to be excellent and the rooms are amazing.

A nice room but on...

Liked: The room itself was beautiful, big comfy bed, tv that you can chrome cast onto, nice bathroom on quick inspection. What I was the most excited about was enjoying a bath in the giant bathtub that’s in the bathroom. I went and treated myself to a lovely bathbomb. Once I climbed into the tub that’s when my comfort was shattered. The entire low level of grouting and rim of the bath was surrounded with mould and grime, this bathroom clearly hasn’t had a deep clean in a long time and I suddenly felt very aware that I was sat in a bathtub that’s was probably filled with the previous customers grime. For a hotel of this standard I really would have hoped for better. Staff on the front desk also came across as a little frosty and not very involved or warm when interacting with them.

Very discouraging!

Disliked: They pushed an upgrade several times in advance of my stay. I pre booked a classic room at £152. The rate on the day I stayed was £101. It would have been good customer relations to have upgraded us at no extra cost! It left me with a feeling of having been ‘ripped off’! It does not attract me to return!
