An overpriced primitive hotel with...

Liked: The location is convenient between station and downtown.Staff is very friendly and helpful. Room cleaning was also good.
Disliked: Breakfast was not impressive. I recommend buying something outside. There are many shops nearby. Very small bed and bath room in a single room. I am a medium size woman but I felt I am the biggest the room can afford. I do not recommend a single room in the hotel for people who need more space.Somehow, I could not switch AC to cooler. So, I ended up with opening window to get some cool air in which case it was very noisy because the room was facing a major street with a lot of traffic.

Not good value

Liked: Very good location and nice staff.
Disliked: Maintenance of the property is at an unacceptable for the price point level.

Functional Stay nearby to Main...

Liked: The location was great, a five-ten minute walk into the main square, with lots of restaurants/cafes/shops near, also close to the train station (about a 15 minute walk). There is also a good supermarket about a five minute walk away. The room was spacious, the staff were friendly and there was a kettle and tea/coffee in the room (as well as a fridge). It was functional and convenient.
Disliked: The room was functional, but the furniture/decor was definitely dated, and the room felt a bit tired. It wasn't a modern hotel room. There were no plugs (i.e. for charging phones) near the beds, which was a bit of a pain for overnight phone charging. There was an issue fitting the UK-EU plug adapter into the extension cable- it did not fit, so we only had one usable plug socket in the hotel room between us, which was definitely a pain (won't be a problem if you don't need a plug/charger adapter, but would be a definite pain if you do). Overall, the room was functional enough, but it felt a bit tired and - given the above factors- a bit overpriced.

Liked: Overall, the hotel is a bit old and not maintained, the bed has soft mattress, and the bathroom is very small. The hotel is centrally located in the shopping street, that's the main pro, but the lack of customer friendliness and communication regarding the water issue negatively impacted my experience. I didn't had any breakfast, so I can't criticize this.
Disliked: During my stay at this hotel, there was a major problem with the water. There was no running water available from early morning until the afternoon, which was understandably very inconvenient when you are on a business trip. Although I went to the reception to inquire about this, I was not offered any water and there was little communication regarding possible solutions. I later learned that bottles of water were available, but unfortunately, this was not communicated when I asked for assistance.The hotel stated that the problem was beyond their control (due to construction work on the street), which is understandable. However, I expected a more proactive approach in informing and assisting guests from a hotel of this reputation and price range. The solutions provided, both during my stay and after my complaint, left much to be desired. Despite my request for compensation or similiar for the inconvenience, it was declined.

Hotel Donatello is recommended.

Liked: Hotel is located within walking distance of all the important sites in Bologna as well as the Central Train Station. Breakfast is good and varied. Staff are welcoming, helpful, polite and always happy to answer any questions you have. Would definitly stay there again if we visit Bologna.
Disliked: Shower instead of a bath. Getting in and out of the bath is somewhat challenging for senior guests.
