We had a great time...
Liked: Overall we had a great time in Antwerp. The hotel was in a lovely location and I loved the terrace. The price we paid was great. We paid €160 for two nights for the junior suite with terrace.
Disliked: Unfortunately the WiFi was really bad so I couldn't use my laptop. The room was very overdue for a renovation and we had to take three flights of stairs each time because there is no elevator. We also didn't have a tea maker either, we could get tea from downstairs but that's inconvenient.

Very good
Liked: This was our second stay at Diamonds and Pearls. It is a very special hotel, located in the old center of Antwerp. It feels like entering into a secret world when you get there. We very rarely saw any staff- only at check in and check out but did not miss it. It was like our own hideaway in Antwerp. The rooms are decorated with antiques giving the hotel a sense of elegance. This is not a hotel for people with mobility issues. The stairs are narrow and steep. This is also not a hotel for customers who want everything to be perfectly manicured. This is a hotel for people who want something unique and special.

More Shabby than Shabby Chic
Liked: Excellent location in the ancient part of Antwerp right next to the cathedral. As it was in December the Christmas markets and the food markets are also on your doorstep. There is an abundance of shops, restaurants also close by.We opted to have breakfast for our first morning and this was beautifully presented (Continental style) although if you have any food allergies or preferences you need to tell them in advance as you are limited on what is presented to you.Our rooms were of a decent size and once the hot water arrived (you needed to run the taps for 5 minutes) there was good pressure for the showers.
Disliked: There is a fine line between shabby chic and shabby and unfortunately this falls on the latter part. I would not classify this as a hotel it is more like an Airbnb. Upon checking in we were not shown to our rooms but told they were on the first floor. This was reached via a VERY narrow staircase. Upon entering our rooms we could not work out the heater controls and the radiator in our bathroom was not working. When we went back down to ask for assistance the host had disappeared! There is no staff on hand in the evening you are given door keys for access from the street. The photographs on Booking.com show a welcoming fireplace and a bar. We stayed at the beginning of December and it was quite cold this would have been an ideal opportunity to have a welcoming fire lit and the place to have some essence of Christmas. Sadly this was not the case. The place is littered with strange objects. We had a large display cabinet in our bedroom full of glasses /photo frames and fake grasses on top. Half of which had been modified to hang some clothing. An antique wardrobe would have been more practical! This place is in such a beautiful location and yet it appears that there has been no investment in the upkeep . It needs decluttering and renovating.
