Beautiful historic hotel, but service...

Liked: Check in staff/concierge were friendly and helpful. Excellent location.
Disliked: I stayed at Hotel des Indes over 20 years ago and it was a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations this time. Breakfast staff was borderline rude. When we got to the dining area, the first thing the seater told us was that the buffet was closing in half an hour--it felt like we were being scolded for being late, even though that was adequate time to get our food. When we were seated, we asked about ordering from the menu, but no one ever came to take our order or looked our way. We ended up eating from the very nice and certainly adequate buffet, but would have liked to order an omelette. We had to ask for coffee, it was not offered, and it came cold and tasted like it had been sitting in a pot for quite some time. No coffee re-fill was offered and when we asked for it, the server just poured some from the pot, brought no additional milk, and quickly walked away before we could ask for it. The whole experience just felt rushed and ungracious. The decor of the hotel needs some refreshment. I appreciate the old-world style, but the carpeting in the hallways is worn and dirty. Carpeting in the room was somewhat worn, as well, and the decor feels very dated. The place just needs some refreshment at this point in time. It's a shame, because it's really a very beautiful and historic facility.
