Convenient for Gare Montparnasse and...

Liked: The location is great if using Gare Montparnasse. The 14th is a new area and I was impressed as to how local it is; quite refreshing especially on rue Daquerre. A real discovery for me after decades of staying in Le Marais of St Germain. Breakfast was slightly disappointing. It had advertised using local artisan bakers et al but apart from a baguette all was standard down to the Bonne Maman jam. Also, while having the courtyard is a plus in terms of light and air, allowing guests to smoke out there meant crossing a Smokey area to access my room.

Disliked: I feel slightly guilty writing this review since the staff seemed nice but I don’t want someone to make the same mistake as me. Normally I trust booking.com ratings, but after visiting this hotel I know now to double check on google. As I am looking into the rating system after this, I see that some of the ratings are based on commission which is the only explanation as to why this hotel has such a high rating and is pretty messed up on booking.com’s part to be honest. Firstly, I’m sure the central courtyard would be nice in the summer but since this is Paris, people use it to smoke and since all the rooms open to the courtyard the room smelled slightly like cigarettes masked with pungent air freshener. I think it was a combination of this, the room being freezing, and exposed circuit breaker on the room’s wall—led me to check google reviews. One reviewer had said her sheets had hairs all over the sheets and some trash. And sure enough that was what I found. To be fair, the trash looked like something that had been through the wash and got stuck to the sheets. But it got me thinking, if they aren’t checking for trash on the sheets while they make these beds, what else are they not checking. I didn’t totally mind the running water sound in the walls, as I live in an old building in New York and my heat is water/boiler based. But I definitely heard the person next door peeing in their toilet which was the nauseating cherry on top to make me high tail it out of there. Makes sense why the only option was non-refundable when I booked—and am now down $135. Anyways it’s on me for trying to be mindful of cost, I should have just splurged on the $171 room (I'm staying at now in instead) in the first place.
