Perfect place to enjoy Amsterdam

Liked: It was in such a beautiful street and a great location to see a lot of Amsterdam! The staff were also lovely and helpful!

Warm, beautifully located hotel with...

Liked: There are several reasons to choose Hotel Alexander. Most of all, perfect location: central--we could walk everyplace; near the Vondelpark and in the Museum Quarter; quiet, safe, peaceful. Also: friendly and very helpful staff; calm, cozy public space (good for an early AM riser like me--I could go down to the lobby/breakfast room and make myself a cappuccino and hang out there). It's relatively affordable, good value for hospitality this good.
Disliked: Our "small double room" was REALLY small (and it was the biggest of the small doubles! We booked the "small" by mistake, tried to change it, nothing else available, but the very warm man I spoke to made a point of giving us the biggest one in the category. It had a sweet balcony but was still very hard to move around in for two people. Book a "small" to save some money but go into it with your eyes open). This hotel would not work for anyone with mobility issues. There was a lift to our room's floor--but you still had to walk up stairs after you went up the elevator. They would have helped carry luggage up, I'm sure, but those stairs were unavoidable for basic getting in and out.

Great location and staff, but...

Liked: the location was amazing, so close to transport and shopping areas. it was a 30 minute walk to the city centre but you had so much to do and see in that 30 minutes you didn't feel it. the breakfast was lovely, fresh croissants, fruits, meats, etc. each morning, and the rooms were mostly clean.free tea and coffee all day if you drink it in the breakfast area at reception.
Disliked: the walls were paper thin, you could hear someone sigh two doors down. I felt bad for those nearest the stairs or elevators because you can hear everything through the doors. not much street noise, there is some plane noise to be expected being in the flight path.the drains had an awful smell that hit you when you walked into the very very small room. we found a mystery stain on our sheets and some long dark hairs in the bedding, neither of us have long dark hair.breakfast was great but often ran out at busy times quickly, several mornings it was a 20 minute wait for more cups to have something to drink, you also have to reserve a 30 minute timeslot for your breakfast on day one for your entire stay so this was difficult.as a warning to people with mobility issues, there are steps to walk into the building, and as far as I could see only two rooms on the ground floor. there is an elevator but it does not go to any of the floors it goes to the middle of the staircase between floors. so each floor either walks up a staircase or gets on the elevator to walk down a flight of steps, unless you're on the 3rd floor in that case you have to walk a flight of steps after leaving the elevator because it doesn't go higher.the room is so small do not bring a large suitcase you won't have the space for it.

Excellent location, friendly staff and...

Liked: The location of the hotel was perfect for the museum’s and Vondelpark was close by. It was a short walk into the city. Breakfast a the hotel was well presented and plentiful and staff were helpful with my special dietary needs. Alp the receptionist was friendly and helped find places to eat close by.
