A gem of a hotel; prime location to get to many attractions; staff very professional; Bellman was courteous and very helpful - gave us a history of the Hotel which was wonderful; cozy lounge/restaurant for drinks; extremely accommodating with rainy day check out. We will be back and will highly recommend the Renaissance 57 to friends, family and business associates.
Liked: Welcoming staff; concierge; bedding; ambiance; location.
Disliked: Lunch service was very poor in the in-house restaurant - food very average; ordered coffee which was not available; the restaurant was not particularly crowded; staff did not appear to be confident or clear on who was to take care of our table; cob salad had almost zero lettuce.

Great location, luckily only a...
Liked: The location was great! Close to many hotspots without being IN them, so no disturbance. Most staff I dealt with were friendly and very helpful.
Disliked: The booking stated 'Breakfast included', one of the main reasons I chose this hotel. Only to find there was no breakfast at all! I feel the amount I paid covered breakfasts, so was not happy I had to pay more for breakfasts out. I enquired at front desk about this and they advised to contact the GM. I have emailed about this, but still waiting for a reply. Also the room amenities were old, worn, rusty and most lights did not work. The leather headboard had chunks worn off.

Recent stay in NYC -...
Liked: I liked the size of the bedroom, and the fact that it had a terrace. The bed was a very good size and the mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The room and communal areas of the hotel were very clean. The bathroom was clean and tidy and large in size.
Disliked: The hotel is very outdated and needs modernising, I appreciate that NYC is a loud city with lots of noise, we were on the 15th floor and the noise of the traffic was very loud still, the glazing of the windows needs improving. The blinds on the windows also need improvement as light could be seen streaming through at bedtime and also from the corridors were coming through gaps on the windows and doorsThe room itself was very good size, however needed modernisation, it had a fridge, however no water provided which given the cost of the hotel I believe water should be replaced daily free of charge. There was a coffee pod type machine which looked outdated and we didn't use it, we requested a kettle and were provided with a very cheap style kettle which looked like it belonged in the 1990s, were provided with paper cups only, a proper kettle/coffee machine and real cups/mugs would make a much more appealing appearance to the rooms this would be little expense to the hotel to invest in some decent items and make it feel more homely for guests. The plug sockets were outdated and needed more in the room, the heating sounded very loud (We switched it off when inside the room due to the noise and even though we stayed at the end of December the room wasn't cold) We didn't attend breakfast we ate out daily, I noticed that there was a rooftop, I believe that there is potential here for some kind of seating area and outdoor heating, the same could be done on the terraces to each bedroom that has one, this would be a great way of relaxing after a hard day of walking NYC. The TV within the room was streaming sites only, this slightly disappointed me also as I wanted to catch up on some local news.Overall we enjoyed our time in NYC and after my wife read previous reviews she was worried about staying but we're surprised that it's not half as bad as feared.

An awful experience, we have...
Liked: The location was fabulous, just a shame everything else let it down!
Disliked: The building and rooms were very dated and tired, there was lots of signs of wear and tear and needed a complete overhaul! You were lucky to get replacement toilet rolls, but things like shampoo, conditioner or shower gel were non existent! We were also expecting breakfast, as we booked bed and breakfast and we were told on arrival that breakfast was no longer offered since they were taken over! We should have received an email informing us of this but we did not! The staff were clearly fed up of telling guests this fact as it immediately frustrated us as I’m sure it does everyone else! They told us to email the manager about some kind of compensation to allow us to have breakfast outside of the hotel. We were offered $10 per person per day (this will not get you breakfast anywhere in New York!!) We reluctantly agreed to this in the interim but with the proviso we would be looking for further compensation in addition. This was agreed by Gabe the manager (who we never saw, it was all agreed by email) however we have been home now for nearly 4 weeks and we have not received a penny! My husband has emailed several times and nothing! Please avoid this hotel, they are deceitful and the hotel itself is nothing like the pictures!
